Boxer=Human
My husband and I are the proud owners of our third boxer (yes, the life span CAN be short), and we will never own another breed. As to your question, is this the perfect breed, and do dog owners of other breeds feel as obsessed as us boxer owners, THEY DON"T USUALLY GET IT! Joe (11 month old male boxer) and I walk at the park at least 5 out of 7 nights, and have gotten to know some really nice dog owners there, but sometimes when we exchange stories, they look at me like I am exagerating the things that Joe does. I swear he is almost human and understands at least 100 words and phrases (lots of work with him and one on one time). My mom, who is not a dog lover at all, calls herself "nanny" and in the 10 months that we have had Joe, has truly fallen in love with him. To make a long story longer, I truly believe that the boxer is very unique for its intelligence and empathy. On the flip side, boxers are not for everyone, as evident by the number in rescue and shelters. They are EXTEREMELY hyper the first 2 years (at least mine have been), require a lot of patience and one on one time (which not everyone can do), and they get huge before they calm down. If you have worked with them properly, when they mature, they will bring you infinite joy, but too many people give up before they get to that point. I can definately understand why some boxer rescues will not adopt to people who have never owned one. Hope this helps and when you get your boxer baby, remember, consistency and patience will go along way!!!
