Boxer Buddy
Hello, I'm new to the board, but I've been a fan of Boxers a long time. One of my best friends has a 3 year old fawn Boxergirl named Lily (a.k.a. freakdog and freakylilygirl!) and I absolutely love her to pieces! When my last dog, Flicka (half smooth fox terrier/half whippet), passed on in 2002, I was pretty sure I wanted to get a Boxer for my next dog. This became my definite choice after meeting not only a number of show Boxers, but also a few rescues with the Homeward Bound Boxer Rescue at the Fort Washington Expo Center dog show (all of whom gave me sloppy Boxer kisses). I'm just now in the process of adopting my first rescue Boxer. As soon as that happens, you can be sure that photos will follow. I get such joy from this breed, I can't even begin to describe it - I'm definitely suffering from Boxer withdrawl right now!

We have a rescue we just got a couple of weeks ago; Riddick is a 1yr.old white male with a TON of energy!! He keeps everyone on their toes!
I'm so happy to hear that your first choice was to rescue a boxer; there are so many of them out there that need loving homes!! Can't wait to see the pictures.

Hi and welcome to BW :) SO exciting that you are getting your first boxer! And congrats on getting a rescue.... I think those stories are always so wonderful!

Welcome to BW. Sounds like you really did some research on boxers, that is wonderful to hear. I'm glad you went rescue - too many babies in need. I can't wait to hear all about your baby and see pics.

I did spend a lot of time thinking about what kind of dog I wanted. Actually, I took an online quiz to see what breeds would be appropriate for my lifestyle and the Boxer was at the top! (As if it shouldn't be??) My friend's Boxer totally sealed the decision. I love her dog so much that I go to her house just to see her - don't tell my friend though!! When I show up, Lily goes absolutely crazy - she brings me her latest favorite toy, kidney beans herself about the living room, and then as soon as I'm sitting in the chair, she climbs right up in my lap and has to kiss me about 10,000 times. There is just something about the breed that stands out way above and beyond other breeds.

Oh, and a rescue was definitely the way to go - There are so many in need of a forever home. It appalls me the way that people just "dispose" of their dog when it isn't a cute puppy anymore... Your pet is a lifetime committment, not a spur of the moment, aww, isn't it cute, let's get it-type decision!
