Hello from Maui

I live on the Hawaiian island of Maui, and am happy to have found this wonderful resource. I am strongly considering getting a fawn male puppy, and am in the information gathering phase of my decision. There is SO much to learn! In college, I had a roommate with a boxer, and ever since then I knew I'd have one when the time was right. 15 years later, I finally feel as though the time is here. I'm excited, but want to make a wise decision in choosing the right breeder and puppy. Here on Maui, and in Hawaii in general I think finding a quality breeder might be a bit difficult. I hope this site and it's forums can help me to make the best decision possible. So, thanks for accepting me in to your community.

Welcome! Glad to see you are preparing. It is not easy to find really good breeders anywhere. Don't be discouraged. The number one is meeting the puppy's parents. They should be on-site, appearing in good health, happily social and not confined in small areas/cages. Do not buy from breeders who are breeding a lot of dogs or different breeds. Do not buy from pet shops, and do not buy from anyone who does not offer a health guarantee. Ideally, you want to buy from someone who health-tests the parents.
