I have VPI for all my animals. They have a deductible and a limit for each disease/accident, but they seem to be the best overall.

Pet Assure is another to look into. It isn't insurance per se, but membership gets you 25% off your vet bill, every visit, every time. It costs $99/year for one pet, or $149/year for up to four pets. No hiked costs for 'select breeds', no deductibles.

If you pair that with Care Credit (a no interest veterinary/dental care credit card) you're pretty well set. You can face a $4,000 bill, have it automatically reduced to $3,000, pay in full up front with no money out of pocket using your CareCredit card, then have 12-36 months to pay it off without incurring a dime of interest.

There are restrictions. You must find a participating vet in your area, and the discount my not apply to food, medication, or services performed outside of the practice. (labwork, etc) The Dr. I work for does, however, apply the discount to the entire bill so it really does depend on the vet.

Pet Assure + Care Credit would be my "insurance" of choice if I did not get the generous discount my employment affords me.

Is the insurance worth it? I have read many different plans on the Internet. Chloe has had many vet visits. I think we are closing in on about $1000 in the last 10 weeks since we bought her - that is for KC, giardea, 16 week vaccinations, and whatever she has now.....

We have VPI for Rocco and have been happy thus far. I think it's like $34.00 per month but for us it's worth it...unfortunately, Rocco has been at the vet lots in his 15 months. Oh, the 34 includes the cancer rider....I think it's a little cheaper if you don't get it.

VPI Pet Insurance

We also have VPI for both our girls. We had each of them on the Superior Plan until they were finished with puppy shots and being spayed, then we down-graded to the Standard Plan. It's pretty affordable, and I like knowing that if anything bad should happen, we can get them the treatment they need without worrying about huge bills.
