Storri< I have seen this in many boxers but it is VERY common in dobermans. I am unsure if it is epileptic as the boxers I have seen it in either never get worse, discontinue to have head shakes, or have them so infrequently it has little or no effect on their life or health.

Does make one wonder about it though???????

Debbie, it is interesting that so many boxers seem to have this. It does make you wonder what in the world it could be though. I don't think every boxer that has head shakes has epilepsi. I mean no other part of his body was shaking or twitching. His eyes were focused and not rolling around in his head. Who knows, my vet probably just called it that because she has no other explination for it. Since I had a complete blood profile done on Joe Monday, I feel better knowing that it was nothing more. If his head shakes every now and then and he is not hurting (which he seemed just fine when it happened) then I can live with that! I will just continue to watch him and hope that it does not progress. Thanks for your input on this topic. I appreciate everyone's response ;)

Hi, my year old male Zeus does this too. It started after he got really ill with Salmon poisoning. He had a high tempature and the vet thought it might have something to do with his blood sugar being low as he had quit eating. We were lucky enough to have a good vet who diagnosed and treated the salmon poisoning (it is very deadly) but although my handsome boy recovered, he still has the head shaking. I'm able to stop the episode by clapping my hands or calling his name or squeaking his favorite ball. I have him on a partially homemade diet. He doesn't get any processed foods and no chemicals or preservatives. The vet doesn't seem to know what the cause is and doesn't seem to be too concerned about it. Zeus is otherwise a very healthy and very active boxer boy. I would appreciate any other information anyone else has to offer. His blood tests were within normal limits, so we're stumped!!! It is so special to be able to share with all you boxer lovers!!! Thanks!!!
