Head Shaking

This morning I noticed Joe's head shaking right before I left for work. It was shaking from side to side king of like someone who has Parkinsons Disease shakes. It scared me to death! Does this happen to any of your babies and if so does any one know what it is? I have talked to Luey and she said her baby does this some times and her vet could not find a source for it. I have an appointment tonight with the vet to get a complete blood panel done.

Any help would be appreciated.

Make sure your vet includes a full thyroid panel (not just T3/T4) - head shaking is often a symptom of thyroid problems.

Thanks Julie, I sure will do that. This boy is just one big mess and every week it is something new. God must be testing me ;)

Storri, there was a thread like this a while back but I can't find the link to it. Tess used to head shake until we changed her diet and alot of members said their dogs head shake too. Many think it is diet related.

Thanks Muttersley! He is on a new diet (Hill's Ultra ZD Allergen Free). I had him on BARF before but had to stop because of his allergies. Wish I could put him back on it and still may be able to one day with the help of a specialist. He has been on the new diet for about 4 weeks and I hate what's in the bag! It has helped his skin out though but not 100%, I would say more like 85-90%.

Do y'all think I am over reacting by rushing to the vet tonight?

No, I think it's better to be over cautious, but from what you've said it could be connected to his new diet. Let us know what the vet says.

I just found the previous thread that you were talking about. Everyone's description sounds just like my description of Joe. I will bring this to my vets attention.

Thanks again for your reply!

Good morning! (well not really a good morning with the US being attacked...I am horrified).

Just a quick update on Joe. I took him to the vet last night and they said it was an epileptic seizure. For now I am to keep a journal on the frequency of these seizures and if they are to progress then there is medicine that he can take to control them. I hope he never has to get to that point, but if he does at least there is help out there for him.

Thanks for your help yesterday!

Take care and God Bless the USA

I hope Joe continues to make progress and doesn't have to go on meds. Even if he does it doesn't matter as long as he's happy and not in pain. I know a couple of epileptic dogs and they live active and happy lives.

I'm so sorry about the devastation in the USA, I just hope and pray that is the end of it.
