Hello all, yesterday I was sitting on the couch with my baby Harley, and all of a sudden his head started shaking slightly side to side, I wasnt sure what was going on so I got him up and offered him a treat, he was still shaking but once I gave him the treat he stopped. He did do it a few more times yesterday, but nothing major. Is this a seizure? I guess I should call the vet and see what they say, anyone else ever have this happen in their boxers? Any feedback would be appreciated. thanks!

Is it possible he had an itchy ear? Did he scratch at it too, or just shake his head?

No he didnt scratch his ear or anything. To me it looked like he couldnt control it. He kind of looked at me like whats going on? I'm going to keep a closer eye on him and take note of when he does it. He seems to be just laying next to me and it happens. I dont know, has anyone else ever had this happen to their boxer?

Type head shaking in the search button and you will find you are not alone with this problem. Abby is getting them more frequent and they last longer.
One therory is low blood sugar. For most dogs it happens at rest and giving them some sugar or peanut buttere seems to help.
I am vontimplating going for nerulogical tests although I have read others that went that route and got no answers. I have been to the conventional vet and he did blood work which was normal. Very confusing.
If you get any answers please share.

Thank you so much for responding, I feel much better, I was afraid he was having a seizure. I'm going to see if changing his diet helps, we did recently, the last month change his food, so I'm going to look into trying something different, and also, try the peanut butter to see if that helps. He loves his peanut butter. Thanks again!

Do a search for head tremors, there are plenty of us who have dealt with them. What kind of food are you feeding?
I know a member (douma) got a natural remedy but I can't remember what it was. He dog's name is Avra if that helps in your search.

Abbie had a bout of head tremors the end of last summer and I called the vet because she was so young. I had dealt with them before in my older boxer. And he asked a couple of questions and said to just watch her. He had said he has seen cases like that that only happen at the end of summer and he or any other colleagues couldn't find a reason for it.

I doubt the vet would be able to help you much but except for taking bloodwork to make sure it is normal. I would keep an eye on him and do some research to see about changing food and keep some treats handy so that when he does it you can give him some, they do help. There is a big thread here somehwere about head tremors and I think most believe it is linked to food.
If he goes into a full blown seizure, make sure there is nothing around he can get hurt on and get him to the vet immediately afterwards. Also, when they are having a seizure becareful that you don't get bit or hurt.

The vet also said the head tremors are painless for them, they just may be a tad confused but they are fine.

Thank you so much, I'm going to look into the dog food. He eats Beneful, healthy weight, and likes it. But maybe he needs to be on a better quality of food, I dont care how much it costs if it will help him. Does anyone have any suggestions on what food seems to work for their boxers? I went to the thread about head tremors and it made me feel much much better, I thought he was having a seizure at first, and dummy that I am I stuck my fingers right into his mouth to see if his tongue was ok, he didnt bite me though. He just looked at me like, what are you doing? I'll be more careful next time, he just had a tremor about 1/2 hr ago so I gave him some peanut butter on a spoon and he's fine. One of the threads said maybe the blood sugar is low, so I'll see how that goes. thanks again!

What type of food do you feed Austin? I'm going to change his diet immediately, he never had these on his other food. So I'm hoping this helps. Thanks, wish us luck!
