We have had some serious issues with fleas lately, and I can't seem to win so I gave Chance a bath tonight and I used Dawn dishsoap along with Dr Foster's and Smith Hypoallergenic and flea shampoos and now he is scratching more than he was before the bath ! When I bathe him I usually use the fosters and smith shampoos and only use the Dawn when the fleas get real bad(down here they never seem to go away), could the dawn be making him itch since it has been so long since the last time I had to use it, or could it be something else? I gave him the proper dosage of Benadryll and it hasn't seemed to help at all. The poor guy is so miserable and I have no idea how to releave his itchies. I sprayed him with anti-itch hydracortisone spray (for dogs), wiped him down with a cool wet rag and even tried appling Aveno anti-itch cream and I got nothing. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated and Chance sends kisses and wiggles in advance. Thanks for listening ;)

Don't know if this will help, but how about a soak in a bath with just bicarb soda added?

Any idea where I might find it? I am willing to try anything once. He is not scratching as bad today but is still itchier than I would like him to be. He is super sensitive to fleas and I think we finally have them under control but even if there is one flea on him he will scratch to no end. I was thinking of maybe trying a flea dip with Adams flea dip to see if that will kill that flea that may still be lingering causing him to itch so much :)

I don't know much about soap, but wouldn't Dawn do more harm than good? Dawn dish soap is used to cut grease, in fact, I use Dawn to do dishes. I would think that would be very drying to a boxer's skin. If you dry their skin out too much, you will see a lot more itching and flaking. Also, if you have had problems with fleas, good chance your boy brought them into the house and into your carpet. Are they still getting on him from the carpet? You'll have to treat your carpet if they are in it, if you have carpet. I would call my vet and ask if they have a special shampoo for sensitive skin to help with fleas. Good luck. :)

Have you put Frontline Plus on him? That will kill the fleas and repel any new ones. I think the itchies will stop once the fleas are gone. You only have to put it on once a month to keep it under control.

Also, I would try bathing him in a dog shampoo that has some type of oatmeal in it as that is usually very soothing to their skin.

The vet actually recommended the Dawn to use as a quick kill soultion for the fleas. I don't use it all the time only when the fleas are real bad. I had tried Frontline in the past and the fleas in our area are immune to it ( again coming from the vet) so I use K9 Advantix and it seems to do the job. I treated the carpets, all the bedding(his and mine) and the furniture and our cat as well. I have been at work all day today so I am not sure how he is now, his dad is home with him today as he is under the weather himself. I have tried the oatmeal shampoo in the past as well and that doesn't seem to do anything to the fleas down here. I swear the are mutants or something :) Hopefully he is better today and when I get home I am going to give him his monthly dose of K9 Advantix, the vet said to wait 2 days after a bath to apply it because when I bathe him all the oils get washed off of his skin, so to use it right after would be senseless because it needs the oils in the hair and skin to stick to. Hopefully his itchies wil start to get under control once the weather cools off down here (we have our fingers crossed anyways) since that's when the fleas seem to hibernate ;) Thanks for all your suggestions though they are all very helpfull. We sure do love you guys here at Boxwerworld :)

Bicarb soda is baking soda,in the baking aisle of the supermarket.
Hope it helps the itches, probably won't do anything for the fleas though.

My vet told me one time that they have a pill that you can give your dog that kills any fleas on them and works for 24hrs. I guess this give this to any animal that has to stay at the office or have surgery so fleas don't spread to others. Have you tried that. At least that would stop him from trying to get that one last flea. And give you time to put on the k9 stuff to keep them off.
