Somewhere I read that you could try feeding pineapple to dogs who like to do this. I wish I could remember where it was I read it, but you could try to do a seach here and see if it comes up.

Gretchen tries this everytime she gets into the horse pasture. YECH! Nothing like horse dookey breath :)

Completely Boxer Crazy
Garvin just loves cat poo! The cat won't use the litter box because of the indignity. But then Garvin follows it out to the garden to get a fresh one!
You can try to find a way to stop the cats pooing in your garden - someone posted on this recently-
or you could take him out to do his business on a leash. This is a bit of a pain but we've had to do it the last few weeks due to allergy season and it's made for a much more obedient dog - sort of NILIF method by proxy.
I would not use toothpaste - but I can guess you were pretty sceptical of that. Theories abound about why they eat poo. I think it probably just tastes good  I don't know how bad it is for them to eat...I guess it depends on the intestinal health of the cat and how much the dog eats???
You could try training him to 'leave it' but with those tasty treats around he'll probably need supervision for quite a while....

Thanks for all of your replies. The poop Artie is eating isn't his. My neighbor has 4 outside cats that love my yard and Artie seems to be eating their poop. The Vet said that it might be the food that the cats eat. Sometimes they eat food with fish flavor and so forth.

Geez. What can you do? Fun Fun Fun

take care,

Shaun

Sophie eats her own poop ......so we have to pick it up right after she goes. It's like she looks forward to it after she's done the deed too... Just a note of caution about the eating of other animals' poops, they can pick up parasites and/or become sick. I would refrain from the swatting on the bum....as boxers learn from positive reinforcement.
Good luck

Boxer Insane
It is not uncommon for dogs or other animals to eat feces. Although the very thought of eating it to us is disgusting, animals don't seem to mind otherwise the problem would have been corrected.

Although we are in the habit of immediately cleaning up after our dogs, the neighbors' cats used are yard all the time, and our (then) 3 year old rescue used to not only eat it, but roll around in it. I just supervised his outings, used positive reinforcement, and eventually he stopped. Someone suggested putting meat tenderizer in his food, but I never tried it. Good luck ~ Cathy
