We adopted Daisy (now Darby) on July 27th, and the foster mom had forgotten all paperwork and her SBR tag on adoption day. She said she'd mail them, we didn't get them. We called her, she said she did mail them, we still haven't gotten anything, and she's not returning our messages (although to her credit she was great to deal with before and immediately after the adoption). We are not getting any response from SBR in e-mail. We don't know what to do now.

Is there a representative of SBR here that could help us? We don't want to lose Darby over this.

Finally got in touch with foster mom...

And she's going to resend new copies of everything, and hopefully a new tag as well. Apparently it's just been lost. Her post office is saying it got here, and obviously it didn't. What a bummer. Of ALL paperwork to be lost, it had to be for Darby.

Hopefully the new set will actually show up.

If she mailed the tags with it, then most likely it will be sent back to her eventually (if she put a return address on it). With all the terrorist scares of late, the USPS will not deliver anything with irregular objects in them.

I had this happen to me with an adopter once and it took 3-4 weeks for the envelope to make it back to me (the sender).

I am going through the same situation with my breeder, however, I cannot say that she has been a 'gem' to work with either. It's part of the contract that she send his papers and it has now been 2 1/2 months. I have tried numerous times to get an answer and her response is that she is pretty sure she submitted the paperwork but is checking on it...mmmmmhmmmmmm....I am livid about it. If you finsd out anything SH&CH..pass it on. Good luck!

FYI, a breeders paperwork and a rescue's paperwork are totally different things. A breeder has to register the pups with the AKC, and I assume it's the AKC papers you're waiting on. The AKC can be a bit slow about their filing practices. A rescue simply mails out the contracts and vet paperwork associated with the adopted dog.

Unless you intend to show or breed your baby I certainly wouldn't worry about getting the papers, though I understand if they were promised to you that you absolutely deserve to get them. We registered Hammer with the AKC, though for the life of me I haven't figured out why it mattered at all to my husband. I think it was just money down the drain for a certificate I couldn't even find if I was asked for it. :D
