having to move...(no dogs allowed)

We are having to move. NO ONE will accept my dogs. :( They always say (after I say I have a boxer) that big dogs like that tear stuff up, and absolutely NO DOGS. I am so angry. DH says "I am NOT giving up my dogs, and your house isn't worth it. (which is true) I am getting so frustrated with people's attitudes about having dogs in their homes.
We found one house today, and she said we could have pets---outside. I said absolutely not, my babies are NOT going to live outside...good God with winter coming, does she honestly think I am going to leave my babies outside...People are so stupid. If I had the money, I would buy my own home, and no one could tell me I couldn't have my dogs.

Anyone else have these problems? Past or present?

I haven't been in your situation before but don't give up the search. Maybe offering to pay for any damage that the dogs may do and having the carpets steam-cleaned...in whatever interval of time you see fit...would help. I know this seems that you would obviously do those things anyway, but sometimes just voicing it aloud to the landlords might ease their minds a bit. Hope things work out.

I`m not sure about your area but where I live there are tons of repossessed manufactured homes. It may be that you could put little money down (rent to own type of deal) with moneys being comparible to rent.

We were faced with that same problem when we were moving here... "no dogs over 20 lbs", "no inside pets", etc...

I just kept calling and kept calling and finally we found our current landlord... she has a miniature daschund herself... but... she knows how kids and dogs are... and she said she has always wanted a boxer herself. LOL

So she charged me a dog deposit ($200) and informed me that she hoped I would have the carpets cleaned every 6 months (she has a service that will do the whole house for $100.00) and she's been fantastic about the dog. She stops from time to time to check on things here and she always has to love on Victoria before she leaves.

Keep up searching... don't give up!! And the manufactured housing idea isn't an all bad one either...

Yeah, the deposits we have had to deal with in the past with our little one, but now that we have Frankie, they are in gasps when they find out we have the boxer. Before, when we would call on a house, they would say, I dont see where that little of a dog would be a problem..now, its 'no dogs allowed' after they learn we have a boxer.
We have looked into the manufactured home...and its such an expensive route. There has to be something, someone, somewhere that will feel compasion for my dog situation. I hope its soon, because I have to be out of here before winter....:(

Trust me I know what your going through. When I split up with my ex and was selling my house I had three days before I had to be out of there before I could find one that would let me have a dog of Ravens size there. Luckily my uncle who rents out houses had bought one and the paper work was done just in time for me to move in, and he doesnt mind the size or how many. I got really lucky though. I just told him that I would pay for any damages and such. However we dont have a single bit of carper in our house anywhere so I dont think he was worried about that getting messed up. I wish you the best of luck though. When they ask what you have just tell them he is a full grown completly trained boxer. Some people just dont like puppies being there. Find a mamger to talk to or try finding someone who is personally renting somewhere and not through an agent.

The landlord that I have now, did a better background check on my dogs then he did on me.
He called my vet, called the county to make sure they were liscensed, and then I had to prove that I had renters insurance that would cover my dogs if they did any damage to the place or bit anyone.
But it is getting harder and harder to find places that are allowing bigger animals and it really should not be that way!!

Where in OK are you moving to?
If you are moving to the Oklahoma City area, and are looking for an apartment, I know of one apartment complex on the north side.
They charge a deposit, but there appeares to be no restrictions as to size.

I read an interesting article the other day about how to convince a landlord that your dog would be okay. One of the ideas they mentioned was to create a doggy "resume". It would list any formal obedience training your dog has had, his repertoire of tricks and commands, etc. Also, it would include the name and phone number of your vet, along with proof of his current vaccinations and neuter status. You could also include any other references you could think of that would give a good impression of your dog in particular, or boxers in general. AND make sure you include a picture of your dog, because it's so much harder to say "no" when you've seen those big, beautiful boxer eyes staring at you! If your dog is well-behaved, it might be a good idea to try and orchestrate a meeting where he can be present to show off his good manners. Good luck, and keep looking.

When I rented my house in MI, it took me quite a while to find a place that would allow a large dog. I talked with the landlord, offered to pay an additional deposit, and told him I would bring her with me so he could see how well behaved she was. In the end, when my lease was written up, it didn't just say dog allowed, but "one Boxer". It was so funny!

So you might try something like that--offering to pay a deposit and to let the landlord meet the dogs.
