Completely Boxer Crazy
Same here. We were out in the back playing with Scrappy, with him play boxing, and the neighbor thought he was a pit.

It's not so much his looks why people ask if he's a boxer, it's more because of the tail, people are not used to seeing them with tales over here just yet :p I've seen one other up to now.

People think my white boxer is a pit. They usually cross the street when I'm walking her...If people are more scared of pits, then that's cool with me. Especially, since some homes in my area have gotten broken into recently.

When Rookie was still a puppy (around 5 months) my husband and I were in a drive thru line and the lady handing us our food told us that our little girl was a boston terrier. We were dumb enough to debate it with the fool. The funniest part about it is that we have a boston terrier.

In their defense, some boston terriers do look kind of like miniature boxers :)

I've only really had a few people to ask me if Rocky was a pit bull. Most of those were children. I guess because pits have received so much (undeserved) bad publicity over the years, any time someone not knowledgeable about dogs sees a strong, tough looking dog with an underbite, they assume it must a pit bull. Pits are beautiful dogs but they generally look quite different than a boxer and vice versa. It's like saying a lab looks like a german shepherd. Yeah they have some characteristics in common but are obviously very different dogs. But then many non-dog people are doing good to know the difference between a dog and a cat :)

Pits

My boy gets pit sometimes. He's got the classic pit bull thick chest and slightly bo-legged gait, but face (muzzle) is 100% boxer. I got into a defending Chewy conversation with someone who screamed at me that he would eat her small son. She told the little boy to stay away, but it was okay for her also small daughter to say hello. Neither child was over four years old and neither has had a bad experience, but she still protected only the one child. I don't get it, but I immediately felt defensive. I am a HUGH fan of Pits, they often get a bad rep, but I was so sad for my boxer who was clearly being discriminated against. He's the biggest teddy bear ever. Poor guy!

I think some people associate brindle with pits and some people expect boxers to to all look like the breed standard photos they see in magazines. I get the most questions about Tyson because he is white, has very little wrinkling and a long muzzle. Since he is a rescue, I have no idea of his linage and suspect it is pretty poor...but he is a boxer. Anyway.....all boxers are beautful!
