hair loss

hi all my bonnie is losing her hair in certain spots on her sides . I took her to the vet. and he said she was healthy i also have a male cyde and he is fine.other than the hair loss she is does not show any other strange symtoms. i feed them both pro plan chicken since they were puppies. thanks for reading my post.

Search "seasonal flank alopecia"...it's a seasonal, symmetrical hair loss pattern on the sides, more common in spayed boxer females. Ours has it, more noticeable this year than last, but the hair does begin to fill back in this time of year for Jazz (the hair loss became noticeable in December).

Max had a case of this last summer just a little after a year old, It went away and now he has a great coat. You may wish to give them an egg a couple times a week as that is good for their coats.

seasonal flank alopecia

I am so glad I found this post. My 8 month old female Boxer has a nickle sized area of fur missing and I couldn't figure out what it was. My vet did a scraping of the area to rule out mange but couldn't give me any insight as to the problem.

I was going to take her to another vet, but at this point I think I'll hold off and see if it clears up on it's own.

Does the hair loss only come on the sides? Our 9 month old has a little thinning of her hair on the sides of her face, as well as very small areas of thin hair on her sides. It's hard to even tell most of the time, but when she's at certain angles you can see it pretty easily. Is there anything you can do to treat this or just wait until it gets better on its own?

Tribe23: You should have a vet check your pup over. It could be alopecia, but it is equally likely to be mange and you need a vet to do skin scrapes to diagose that.

Is the hair loss on the sides where the kidneys are? Jake had Cortisone Excess or Cushings disease in where the adrenal glands overproduced cortisone and he had an identical patch of hair loss on each side.

Many endocrine disturbances will result in a symmetrical flank alopecia. The alopecia caused by Cushings and hypothyroidism looks just like seasonal flank alopecia, the difference is that seasonal alopecia is just that-seasonal. Cookie has had it all her life, so it doesn't surprise me anymore, but the first year she got it, I was terrified something was horribly wrong.

There are a couple pictures of Cadie's hair loss posted on the link below. Does anyone know what this looks like? The hair loss on her sides has almost completely disappeared. The patches on her face have seemed to come and go for the past few weeks - sometimes barely visible.

seasonal flank alopecia

Hi. My dog, Jessica Tiger, had two "episodes" of seasonal flank alopecia. She had this twice when I lived in Atlanta and lost the hair on most of her back and sides. There were little tufts of untouched areas that weren't bald on her back and sides, but where she was bald, I mean she was truly bald. She's a brindle (hence the name Tiger) but when the hair grew back, it grew back dark brown. She's a strange looking girl indeed. But, it did grow back - twice. This hasn't happened in the six years I've been in Connecticut.

I took her to an allergist and every other doc and was told nothing could be done. At about the same time she was diagnosed with hypothyroid and she went on thyroid medication. She's never lost the hair since that time, but I'm told there is no connection. Who knows?

Good luck getting to the bottom of this. For Jess and I, this problem was a cakewalk compared to many of the issues we are facing now. Hang in there.
