I've used my blow dryer, but I have a cool setting.
The trick is to always, at every moment, keep your wrist moving the blow dryer, so that the air being blown is never ever concentrated on the same area of skin, even for just a few seconds. (This is also true in hairstyling humans!) If the air concentrates on the skin, it can burn or irritate the skin and make the dog fearful of being blow-dried. Even my cool setting is fairly warm. If a dog feels the heat concentrating on her sensitive skin for a few seconds, she isn't going to sit still to be dried - yowch!
The next time they heard me using the blow dryer on my own hair, they watched very curiously, as if to say, "Hey, that's the noisey thing she used on us!"
The last time I bathed them, though, I just used a towel. It seemed a bit quicker and less of a hassle.
