Gypsy only 18 months old was diagnosed with inflammatory
bowel disease today, not cureable but controlable.
I am wondering if anyone out there has used Dr. Krugers
supplement on control this or to help with the amoun
of flare ups that occur? And does a low fat diet help?

Don't know anything about it but very sorry to hear.

Hope Gypsy gets better!

I have not heard of the supplement you are referring to. Amaya is currently on Hills Prescription Diet I/D which is designed for intestional disorders. She is on it for colitis. You may want to check with you vet about special foods which may help. I?D is pretty expensive but worked great for us.

I/D

I agree science diet makes excellent products however this
diet has been ruled out along with sensitive stomach, savory
recipe chicken an rice biljac maint. Iams and all nutro
products(don't want to go there) We are considering
waltham low fat and hill Ld but at this point shes on
metronidazole and being watched closely .She is still
having some blood after her loose stools otherwise shes
a typical playful normal girl, and were hoping for this
eruption to be over soon

symptoms

Just wondering what the symptoms of IBS are. My Rocky has for about a year now had loose stools and sometimes even has bloody stools. It's not all the time but often enough to be concerned. We've tried changing his diet and it seems to help for a while but it always comes back. Also, it seems to be worse when he gets a lot of exercise or is nervous. Stools have been tested and nothing found.

I was told that stress does bring the onset of the
occurences of bloody stools,The blood is also bright red
at the end of the bm's not mixed in. I was also told that
it happens every 2-4 months. Nothing has ever been found
in her stools either, however Gypsy has been on prozyme
for about a year therefore ruling out any pancreatitis
which i believe is common in boxers. Gypsy is scheduled
for a cbc in a few days a colon biopsy is not really
acurate on the amount of white blood cells attacking her
colon. The best thing I could tell is start a calender on
how often his stools are loose and if anything on these
days are differnt than a normal day at your home, also
the prozyme is really not that expensive and will not
hurt him just adjust his diet accordingly it will make
him get more nutrients from his food so he will eat less.
I belive care-alot has the prozyme for around $17.00 for
about a 5-6 wk supply.Good luck and I hope it's not IBD

ID/Colitis

Wow, what a relief to hear we're not the only ones suffering through this. Sasha was diagnosed with mild colitis about a month ago. We were told that it is probably due to the development of food allergies. Don't know how that differs from IBD, but her main symptoms were soft stools with bright red blood upon completion (actually thought she had a hemorrhoid since she was straining toward the end of her "movement" (with little "output"). Like Rocky, Sasha has had bouts of loose stool over the past year, but never associated with blood.

Sasha was on Metronidazole for a week with no relief. She is now on Sulfasalazine (1/2 tablet (500 mg.), three times daily) for the next two weeks. Also just completed three dosages of Panacur for treatment of possible whipworms (fecal was negative, but it's difficult to detect these buggers). On a side note, boy is that stuff fun or what?? (If you're not familiar with it, it's a milky white product that is administered orally - consistency is like pepto bismol - real messy!) Final course of treatment is a hypo-allergenic diet for the next two months (Waltham Select Protein/Catfish & Rice). It's been less than a week and her symptoms have improved immensely. Most difficult part (aside from administering the panacur) is trying to keep her from eating our 15 year-old's food (Chopper's a chow mix) and keeping him from eating her new food (which is pretty pricey - $26.75 for 17 lbs.)!

I pray all goes well with Gypsy's cbc . . . keep us posted!

I will be sure to ask about the diet, this mornings bm
looked really great I was so relieved but by late after-
noon we was back to pancake batter with the blood.I
really don't see any improvement with the metronidazole
either. I can't wait til friday so maybe we find something
out and get this straightened out

Thank you for the replies. It's a relief to know that Rocky is not the only dog going through this. I did have him on the metronoidazole for a week and things improved for about 2 weeks but now we are back to the same icky stools. I'm going to have to get him back in to the vet. At least after looking though some of this I feel better educated and can talk to the vet about IBD or colitis. I did at one point think it was food allergies but changing diets didn't work. Again thanks!
