update on gus

Gus is a trooper...he always has been such a strong dog!

I have to say I do notice a pretty drastic personality change in my boy lately. I am sure it is because of the meds and his condition, but it is hard to get him to go outside or in his doghouse without the lure of some sort of treat! He is still eating like a horse and has a good appetite. And if you saw his doghouse ( a 8x12 room we had put on our house, complete with heat and air, doggie shower, twin size bed and radio, etc.) you would laugh. He doesn't want to leave the house! Me either...the air conditioning feels great! ;)

I wouldn't say he is suffering pain wise but think maybe mentally? He has little interest in playing with his toys and the last walk we took he didn't seem too thrilled...I haven't been taking him on many walks because the heat has been awful, but he needs some kind of exercise. He has good weeks and then not so good weeks. But I look in his eyes and I see he is still not ready to give up.

I cannot believe it is almost August and my boy is still here.

Your boy is a Trooper with a capital T, hangin' tough like all Troopers do!! :) With a setup like he has (WOW!!), and a mom who loves him to pieces, I can see why he isn't quite ready to move on yet. ;) We've been thinking about him a lot, hoping that his days are comfortable. No doubt the meds are probably contributing to some changes in him. The heat also probably has a lot to do with him not being too crazy to go out. I'm glad he has some good days. Please keep us posted on how he's doing. Hugs to Gus and to his wonderful mom.
