I am taking Gus to the vet Wednesday to get his bloodwork done. I decided to let my regular vet take over for now, at least for the bloodwork. I feel more confident right now with him than with the internist. She wanted to do all kinds of stuff and I think some of it is a little too much. So, I drop him off in the morning, and they are drawing blood to test his bile acid levels. I am not totally sure what that is, but I guess it gives a better idea of how the liver is actually functioning. He has to stay a few hours for that. I am so worried about my boy. I need to stop reading about everything that he could have. I just hope his ALT level is way down when he goes in.

I also thought of something else. I never asked my regular vet is he uses ACE on boxers. And I was thinking, when Gus was neutered, he was on an EKG and he had an arrythmia during the surgery. I took him to a specialist and they could not reproduce it. So now I am wondering, what if he gave my boy ACE and that's what caused the arrthymia. How scary would that be??? I am going to ask him on Wed. if he uses ACE. It would also mean I wasted over 200 bucks to see a cardiologist!!

I will post after our appointment on Wednesday. Please keep those positive healing vibes coming Gus' way, and pray that his ALT went WAY down!!

BE WELL Gus!!! We miss stories of your goofy self and we want you back up and running!! :) Buster misses his play buddy! Tell Gus that Buster has really grown since they played last!!!! And...he's gotten much faster! :) Thoughts and prayers are with you and we really do hope that Gus's ALT level is down. Hopefully the Dr. didn't use ACE on him for his surgery either. Let us know how he is and the tests turn out.

I took Gus for his bloodwork today and he is back home. They must have feed him something yummy cause Izzy was licking his face, LOL! He had to stay there all morning. I don't get any results for a few days! It sucks waiting. I could get them Friday, but with the holiday, it might be saturday or monday. Now I wish I could have stuck with the internist at the other place, because they would have the results already, they don't need to send it out. Anyway, I will keep everyone posted when I hear anything. Hope he is in the clear.

I've been checking all day waiting to see how Gus is. I'm sure he deserved all the yummy treats they gave him :) Waiting is such a pain! I hope everything comes back okay and this can all be history!

Bad news

Gus' ALT is still extremely elevated, and not only that, it went up. It was 1313.Now here are the results:

AST (SGOT) 268 (HIGH) Range:15-66 IU/L
ALT (SGPT) 3140 (HIGH) Range:12-118 IU/L
Results have been rechecked and verified.

:( I am so scared for my boy. My vet doesn't think the AST is anything to worry about right now. His bile acid level was fine. He is still acting totally normal. My vet has never seen a level that high. The internist said he could be in the begining stages or liver disease or liver failure when we went to her. I am so torn between going to my regular vet and the internist. I know if I go to the internist it will probably be 3-4 times the cost of my vet. And I trust my vet, I just don't know if he is as educated on the liver as the internist. I dont know. The internist likes to run ever test there is, and it feels like they do that just to make money. I know they need to rule things out, but I don't know. I don't know what to do. I am taking him to my regular vet Monday for an ultrasound. He said he isn't skilled in the ultrasound, but will be able to tell if there is something obvious. I chose to do that first, have him do it, because he won't charge me as much. If he doesn't see anything, he wants to open him up. I am not sure about that. At that point, I might take him back to the internist. I want to do whats best for my baby. I am so worried about my boy. But at least he isn't acting sick, but something is making his level so high. Please keep sending those positive boxer vibes and prayers his way.

Oh my goodness. I wish you could find out exactly what's going on with Gus. This is a real roller coaster for you. You must be wore out with work and school and worrying over Gus. I'm glad that he's back to his old self again and that nasty pain in his jaw is gone. Poor guy!! I'm keeping you and Gus in my prayers and sending loads of healing vibes your way. Hugs.
