I would definitely report the dog-throwing incident to the police as an animal cruelty incident. Especially since you have a witness. I think throwing rocks at your dogs is a very serious indication of what they might be capable of. Fairly good surveillance video cameras are not nearly as expensive as they used to be. I would get a camera/cameras and a time lapsed VCR (to record a long time). Let the neighbors know about the cameras. It would be much better to prevent anything happening to your dogs than to have evidence in court after something terrible happens. You will be able to relax a little also. Keep the boxes, manuals etc and sell the equipment on Ebay when/if you feel you don’t need it anymore. It would be like renting the equipment

How awful!

OK. Your post has infuriated me as to the rudeness/cruelty/stupidity of some people! What's wrong with them???

I LOVE the water hose idea! That's hilarious! Of course, if it was just to the kids at the ages you said, they'd probably enjoy it. But, to adults, that would work great.

Also, please do report this and get a signed statement from your neighbor that witnessed the dog-throwing incident. A video camera would be great; I would definitely attempt to record them teasing your dogs.

I would not let my dogs out unattended any more. It would be so terrible if they did pull the antifreeze deal. You might be able to prosicute them for it, but that wouldn't bring back your babies. :(

Please keep us posted!

GREAT IDEA!!!

If you can afford this, I would highly reccomend it.

I was thnking the same...the kids would probably think that's fun and may encourage them to "get to you" more. My kids would be grounded FOR LIFE if I EVER caught them doing ANY of that!!!smashicon smashicon smashicon What is WRONG with people?

Better keep a close eye on that situation and, sorry, but I would not be offering to pay for any vet bills. Let their kids work it off in chores....let's see...there's lawns to mow, pools to clean, laundry to do... URGH!!! There's plenty of work at my house that they can do. You definitely need that statement from the neighbor.

Boy, they really love and cherish their pets, huh??

I'm sorry, but your post got me SO ANGRY. What are these parents thinking!!! ARGH!!!

As many said earlier, get a SIGNED STATEMENT from the neighbor that saw the kid throw the dog over the fence. If you have to, hire a lawyer to get an affidavit for you. Make sure you do it soon, as you want the neighbor's account to be as fresh from memory as possible and more valid if it's needed later.

CONTACT THE PROPER AUTHORITIES. There needs to be some sort of record of the troubles you've been having with these kids/neighbors and also what has just happened.

Lastly, KEEP COOL. It will only hinder your efforts later if you blow your top or do something you'll regret later. Be calm, let your neighbors be the FREAKS. I know it's hard, because just from reading your post I feel like blowing my top and it didn't even happen to me!

Let us know how everything turns out.

calm down

I need to calm down too, this has royally infuriated me as well. Thank God someone on this board suggested the water hose, my first thought was to get out the wrist rocket sling shot and a bag of marbles!!!!

This makes me sooo mad! Where I live out in the country, if a dog chases livestock you can shoot it. (Not that I would). It seems like dogs in fenced yards should be protected from harrassment from people and other animals in some law or another. How about spraying the kids with a bug killer attachment on your hose? Or anything that smells nasty like fertilizer? ;)

Jess -

argh!! i was angry last nite, and i keep reading your post and get angrier.

i dont understand how people do NOT teach children to respect life, whether it's their own, a dog, a bug . . . anything!! i know that if my parents had ever heard of me hurting another animal intentionally, i would have gotten a serious grounding.

i would go to the parents AGAIN, but this time come prepared. i agree that you should get an affadavit from the neighbor that saw the dog being thrown over the fence.

We did after the rock throwing incedent but that hasn't helped at all and unless they are on our property or harming the dogs there is nothing they can do anyways.

aren't they on your property when throwing their dog over your fence? i'd definitely call the police, animal control, the humane society ANYONE that will have any kind of clout to at least scare some respect for life into these kids, because obviously their parents wont. and if the parents allow this kind of behavior from their kids, they shouldn't be allowed to have animals in the home. if they have the gall to throw their own dog over a fence - who knows what's next?

and that camera idea, i think it's a great one. people install cameras to watch their nannies, i think that it would work great in this situation as well.

good luck jess!!
