Brutusdads
Boxer Buddy
Hi All! I just wanted to introduce myself. My partner and I have a 2 1/2 year old white boxer named Brutus. He been the best dog we've ever had. He goes everywhere with us and has an open invitation to go to any friends house because he has decent manners for the most part.
I've been lurking in the background of this site for awhile, I found it when we started looking at boxers a few years ago. We had always had labs up to that point but decided to see what boxer life would be like and let me tell you...there is no turning back.
I decided to join yesterday because of some bad news. Brutus had been feeling sick over the weekend and wasn't keeping any food or water down. I took him to the vet on Tuesday and they took some blood tests and sent me home with some meds to calm his stomach and told me to keep an eye on his water and food intake. We got the results back yesterday and he is a very sick dog. They admitted him yesterday afternoon. He has a scary level of toxins in his blood and his kidneys are in renal failure. The first thing they asked was about any possibilty of antifreeze but he has a fenced in yard that he plays in, so there is no possibilty of that. He was on pain meds a couple weeks ago due to a shoulder injury (hes had a bad run of luck) and they say there is a distant possibility that is the cuase. Anyway, needless to say I am worried sick about our little boy and hope he pulls through. He is on an IV for fluids and they have taken some more blood and urine for tests. They are doing an ultrasound this morning. I am going to visit him and talk to the vet at 12:30.
Anybody here have experience with kidney infections?
Thanks for listening.
