Welcome to BW. I am sorry to hear Brutus is having trouble. Our Tyler had parvo as a little tyke. As your situation, that also is scary. There was not a medicine to cure parvo. We had to let it run its course. It sounds like you got him to the vet pretty quick. Is this something you have to let run a course or can they do something to get it out of Brutus's system? Patience is something I DO NOT have. Our vet wanted to give us something to settle Ty's stomach but, I said NO. I made them find out what was causing him to vomit. I'm glad I was a real jerk about it or we may have lost Ty. Please read all you can and have an idea of whats happening. If there is something you are not comfortable with your vet, get another opinion. Good luck

Brutus Update

I just want to thank everyone for their good wishes. I went to visit Brutus yesterday afternoon and I wasn't prepared for how sick he has gotten in just 24 hours. I held him in my lap for awhile and he is just so sad and sick.

The good news is the he tested negative for Lyme Disease, but the bad news is that the toxin levels in his blood are still going up. He is still in critical condition and things arent looking good.

We are just heartbroken here as he is only 2 1/2 and has given us 2 1/2 years of the best and sweetest dog we have ever had. I should be hearing from the vet soon with new numbers and we are praying that they have come down at least.

Our house is so quiet without him here and we miss him terribly.

I am so sorry to hear what your family is going through. 2 1/2 years old is too young to be so sick. Lizzie and I will keep Brutus and your family in our thoughts. Brutus is lucky to have such a wonderful caring family.

Hi all,
Thanks for all of your thoughts and prayers. Unfortunately, Brutus was just too sick and his little body couldn't take it anymore. He left us this afternoon at about 12:30. He was so sick and was just getting worse literally by the hour. I went to see him at noon and he had already gotten worse than when the doctor called me at 9 this morning.

We had already discussed it and we had decided that if he was worse, just to let him go. He was so sick when I saw him. He couldn't even stand up, but I did get a couple nub wags out of him when he saw me.

I spent about a half hour with him, petting him, holding his head, and especially kissing the spot between his eyes that I kissed all the time. I told him that we loved him and that we would miss him, but I understood that he would be better off. I could tell by looking in his eyes that he wanted to go too.

The Doctor came in and we sat on the floor with him, and stroked him and I told her how wonderful a friend he had been. She told me that he was one of the sweetest dogs she has known and that it just wasn't fair that this should happen. She also made me feel good about making this decision. His cardiovascular system had already started to shut down and he probably wouldn't have made it through the night.

She gave him the first injection to sedate him and we sat with him while he fell asleep. I stroked his little head and held on to his paw. Then she gave him the second injection to send him on his way. It didn't take long at all and our little buddy left us.

It was a short 2 1/2 years but it was the right decision to make. I'll still stick around on the board here. I'm sure we'll have a new boxer baby at some point. I'm not going to chage our screen name though since we'll always be Brutus' Dads.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I wish there was something I could say or do to make it easier or help. I could not make that decision, my wife had to do that with a pit bull we had. You did the right thing. I am truly sorry.
