Hey everyone! Now that summer is here, I can actually start reading good, non-school related books. I just finished The Saving Graces and The Secret Life of Bees, both of which were good. I'm looking for more good ones, if y'all know of any please recommend them here....

Thanks ;)

I just finished Bobbed Hair and Bathtub Gin, which is an account of four women writers in the 1920s, including Zelda Fitzgerald. It's written like fiction, and very good. I read mostly nonfiction and older literature, so I don't know much about recent titles, but I just bought John Steinbeck's Travels with Charley, his book about riding cross-country with his standard poodle, and just started Faulkner's The Sound and the Fury, which is slow going b/c it's difficult reading!

One new book I did read recently that's perfect for summer is The Nanny Diaries. It's technically fiction, but based on the experiences of two girls who worked as nannies for NYC's really wealthy families. It's so good and so horrible at the same time, to read how these people regard their children and the people who raise them.

other books i have read recently which aren't bad:
Fall on Your Knees by Anne Marie MacDonald
The Shipping News by Annie Proulx

a great series of books as well is the Earth Children's Series, by Jean M. Auel. otherwise known as the clan of the cave bear books... :)

I don't know exactly what books you are looking for, but Nicholas Sparks is an excellent author. Most of them are romantic, yet The Guardian was (I think) more of a thriller- had you on the edge of your chair!!! Some of his books that have became movies: A Walk To Remember and A Message in a Bottle. My personal favorite was The Rescue!

I loved the secret lives of bees!!! lovely bones was good too, its about a girl who was murdered and watches her family and friends trying to find her killer from heaven... I LOVED the red tent, which sort of biblical, but it is fiction, it is about Dinah, joseph's (colored coat) sister, very good story. The law of love is one of my fave's too, it is buy the same author that wrote like water for chocolate. Three Black Skirts is a cute *all you need to survive book* but do not read plainsong, it was so boring!!!! I have read so many this year, but those are the ones that stand out!!! hope this helps!!!!

P.s. Ohhh, girl with the pearl earring is good too, and the movie just came out to rent(but its not as good as the book!), and Virgin Blue, by the same author is even better!!!!!

If anyone is looking for good fiction, I just finished Angry Housewives Eating Bon-Bons. The title makes it sound silly, but it was really good. Also, the Saving Graces was a really great book.

Thanks for all the recommendations y'all have given me so far!
