We're going to take a 4 hour trip to visit my brother and see his new home over the Thanksgiving weekend. We will be staying two nights. They have a female Dalmation who I have seen get kinda testy with other dogs at times. Not always just some times. My brother and his wife welcome Coco with open arms. They know she's a part of our family and where we go, she goes. And being the owner of a boxer at one time he understands they need to be with their families and require human interaction. He wasn't worried at all and said well if Sparky (Dalmation) gets testy we'll just put her in our room and close the door. Well...I appreciate him being so wonderful about the whole thing but kinda feel bad thinking about them putting her away in her own home because we are there. I guess it's their choice. Basically I'm wondering if you all have any suggestions as far as how to introduce them and maybe what we can do to make this a pleasant visit for all. If the fur babies are happy then we're all going to have a much nicer time. Coco's crate will be with us so she can also go in there if need be some of the time. I also wondered about bringing each of them a special treat/toy to have of their own. Good idea/Bad idea? Any input would be great.....thanks!

If you use the search engine there are lots of threads on introducing two new dogs. Try using the term "introducing dogs" and you'll find all the answers you need.

Thanks Dan....I don't know why I didn't do that first, not like I don't know smashicon. I didn't find a lot but from what I can tell so far, we should let them get together outside of the house first and ease into the house and go from there. Coco has been socialized quite a bit so I don't think she'll be a problem, she just likes to play and play rough a lot. I guess we'll just let them work out any differances so long as it's not hurting anyone and who knows, they may hit it off and be friends from the start.

The first encounter should be on neutral ground, such as a park or on the street and not in one or another's "territory." I usually have new dogs meet on a walk, then walk together and see if they can get along well, then into the yard to let them play some and then into the house.

Good luck
