What do you think about the name brand versus generic? I called the two major companies, Glycoflex and Cosequin, they both say thier "combination" of Glycoflex and Chondrotin, along with how it is extracted makes thiers much more effective. Do you think that is Bull?

I have been giving Jake glucosamine and chrondonin three x a day and ascription 2 x day.
It has been about 6 weeks. I really don't see much improvement. I just ordered some glycoflex II. I am hoping to see an improvement. What is MSM? Where do I get that? Is it better than acriptin?
Jake has partial ligament tears. He is lame but can't slow him down when he's outside playing with his baby brother.
any insight on MSM and glycoflex? I think generic is fine, plus less $.

Well, there is Glyco Flex II , Glyco Flex II double strength, and Glyco Flex III, all of them have MSM, Magnesium Sulfate. That acts as a natural pain relief. If your dog has serious problems, sounds like the II double or the III is the way to go. I called the company that makes Glyco Flex and they were very helpful. Try www.glycoflex.com

To the Torn ACL post. If you do a search on it here, you will find others who have gone through the surgery. They all recommend getting insurance first (although you have already been diagnosed, it might not be covered, but I would still check into it). Try the Glucosamine first and if nothing improves, seriously think about surgery. What's 3 months compared to years of being inactive??

I doubt generic is any worse than name brand as far as Glucosamine supplements go. If you call the distributors, of course they are going to say their's is the best or better. I went to our local Whole Foods and bought middle of the line Glucosamine with Chondroitin. I have also purchased the SynFlex, but haven't gotten to it yet.

SynFlex is a brand of Glucosamine. Glucosamine and Chondroitin are the supplements that help maintain joint mobility. So if you are looking for help with that, Glucosamine and Chondroitin are the way to go. As for the several different brands out there, they all have either Glucosamine, Chondroitin, or both, but they vary in quality and quantity. My Vet recommended Cosequin for Bowzer, but it's too expensive. So I just went to the site to see what dosages to give him and how often, and then went and bought the human version at about a third of the price!

Here is the cosequin site if you'd like more info.

I swear by gloucosime and condrotion (sp)
Subi was diagnosed with severe Hip Displaysia about a month ago.
I have have her on
gloucosime and condrotion 3 x's a day tablet
cosequin DS 2 x's a day
Herbal CA 2x's a day
I have seen such an IMPROVEMENT with her, she is like a little puppy all over again.
Subi will be on this medication for the rest of her life, yes cosequin is expensive- 70.00 120 tablets but when it comes to her no price is too much
i also put bailey on the gloucosime and herbal CA for a preventative
i also switched dog food for subi to Nutro, in a few months when bailey is a year old i will switch her to Nutro also.
I truly believe this stuff works!! it takes time but it will help!!!

GOOD LUCK

wait, so you are giving her the Cosequin AND the glucosamine/chondroitin??? Is this what your vet recommended? Each tablet of Cosequin has 500mg of Glucosamine and 400mg of Chondroitin. So on TOP of this, you are giving another supplement that contains Glucosamine/Chondroitin? Well, if it's working, that's great. I just wonder if it's safe.
