One of the girls at work quit smoking and when she wanted a cig she would take a straw and put it in her mouth and chew on it. She said that really worked for her. Good luck!

I'm glad you're still smoke free !!! As a Respiratory Therapist I could go on & on about the benefits of not smoking. I scared both my parents into quitting while I was in college, dying from a smoking related illness is a horrible way to go. Keep up the fight, you'll be happier in the long run :)

I'm there with ya - I quit August 15 and I've gained 15 pounds!!!! I've replaced on addiction with another!!! Hopefully now that I feel confident with the not smoking I can start trying to lose this weight..... If it's not one thing it's another huh.......

Congrats!!!!! I'm in the same boat with quitting. I've smoked since I was 16 and I'm 36. It was almost the hardest thing ever. I still struggle with it, especially if I stress. I haven't had one since the last week of October. I try not to think about it and my leg jiggling makes people ask. I can't win. Stay strong. Oh, and the money I'm not spending on smokes, I AM spending on lottery.

Congratulations. My 2 year anniversary is 1 Feb. And I am still a stone heavier, but thats life. Every time I go to a restaurant or to someones house I am SO grateful I don't smoke. No more standing outside in the freezing cold or the wind while everyone else is having all the fun.... Plus $80 a week better off.
At 6 weeks you are well past the worst of it.
I did the straw thing too (also the pistachio nut and potato crisps thing, hence the extra stone). Having something to chew on really helps, especially if you are with smokers or having a few drinks (or worse, both!)
I know it feels like you will never stop craving, but although I still get the urge, now days will go past without even having the thought. FREEDOM!!

Ok. I have a question. I had a hysterectomy and then 3 months later I quit smoking. My dr put me on wellbutrin to help me. It was working fine but now I'm having a reverse effect. I get upset really easy. I mean some of these threads just make me start balling. Anyone have this happen? I'm ok with not smoking now so maybe I should ween myself off the wellbutrin. It's really getting on my nerves!

Well I start balling at quite a lot of threads to :o
I haven't smoked for 2 years so I don't think thats it. And my hormones are OK. Some of the stuff you read on here is just so terribly sad.
That said, if you do feel overly teary you should talk to your doctor. I don't know what weelbutrin is so I can't guess how that is effecting things.
Personally I found the most effective alternative to smoking was Pringles.

My husband went on Wellbutrin to quit smoking and had horrible side effects. He had horrible mood swings, panic attacks and depression. If you knew my husband you would no what a mind altering drug this can be. He has been off it a month and just now getting back to normal. Sadly it never did help with the smoking. From reading this thread I do not think his dose was high enough.
The patch has worked for his smoking. I hate that he took Wellbutrin.
