We use Cream cheese at our house I have used the regular brick type and the whipped kind and both seems to work great I met a man whos boxer was on some cancer meds and he told me about the cream cheese because his boxer got wise to the chesse and would always eat the cheese and then spit out the pill, but then he got some cream cheese and he said his boxer loved it and he never had a pill problem again ... there are some good ideas on here hope one works out good for you.. I am anxious to try all your suggestions. I did try the one with the pill in the second bite of food and it did not work. She caught on right away. Also tried the hotdogs. No success. I will get some cream cheese tonight and try. This morning actually wasn't that bad. I tried all the usual (which of course did not work.) I ended up putting the pill in the back of her throat and then squirting water down at the same time with a syringe. She wasn't to happy with me. I got the dirty look and she turned her back on me ( like they do to show us we aren't good enough for them). Thanks for all the suggestions. It's my fault for falling in love with such an intelligent breed.

Our Champ, before he passed away, was on a very strict regiment of pills. We tried everything and finally found the best way. HOTDOGS! Start off giving a hotdog with nothing in it so they can just enjoy it and get excited when they see the hotdog. Then cut it into 4 pieces and microwave for 10 seconds and the pills slip right into them. And I recently discovered pill holders that are treats, they are called Pill Pockets, you can get them at your vet or pet store. Good luck.

some good news

well the antiobotics are done so now we are jsut down to pain pills 3 times a day. We go thru about ten different food items before we get the pills down. I'm wondering if she is just a picky eater. She has also gotten into the habit of eating a pill and then laying down to get her belly scratched. Its too cute. Whatever works, I'm willing to do to get this pretty girl all better.. thanks again for all the help.

I Use....

I do rescue and all of the dogs I get in have to take some kind of meds, the worst being the ivermectin because it is a liquid and smells horrible so I was at my wits end. I use LIVERWURST (with no onions) they LOVE it! it is so strong smelling that they cant even smell the ivermectin. I just wrap the pill in a small ball of liverwurst and they come running, they eat it down so quick they dont even realize it's medicine and not treats. If it is a liquid then I just mix the liquid in a small bowl with some liverwurst and feed it to them.
I am not kidding this is a wonderful way to give them meds. Also for pills I have used the potted meat in those small cans which they love as well, but for you because of the amount of pills you have to give I would try the liverwurst as it is only a few bucks for a chub that will last days & days.

Although it was quite easy to "feed" Cody his pills by putting them in his mouth, I preferred to hide them in a piece of liverwurst, which he loved!
He would warn me when it was time for his pills, as he was eager to have his piece of sausage! My other dog, Rui, would also make sure he was present, as he would get a small piece of liverwurst too...

Giving Meds

Barin was recently on four different meds. Nothing seemed to work with the exception of wrapping a very small piece of whole wheat bread around the pill. Then instead of opening his mouth and trying to place the pill at the back of his tongue, I just threw it up in the air like I do his treats and he catches it every time. Worked great. No pills were spit out.

success was limited

Well, the cream cheese worked for a day, then the next it was chicked( but it had to be warm) yesterday it was bologna. We came home from having he cast changed with two more weeks of antibiotics...YEAH!!I never bought liverwurst in my life but i guess it's time to start now. You know the funny thing is my mom went over to do "dog duty" tonight since I was working and Diamond ( my foster) took her pills with no trouble at all. Just like a kid behaving for the grandparents! My mom of course calls them her grandboxers. Anyway, I'll keep you posted. Keep the ideas coming. I'm sure I'll need something different for tomorrow.

Gel Caps

This works on Monkey: Use a 1/4" drinking straw to core a Vienna Sausage and insert the capsule. They're very soft and she swallows it whole. She is taking antibiotics for a tooth extraction.

What worked best for me was "Pill Pockets". You can buy them in 2 different sizes at most pet stores and at the vets. They are smelly, meaty like chunks with a hole in the middle. You put the pill in and then squeeze the pocket closed.
