My new foster does not like to take her medications. She is on seven different pills today so its a little complicated. I have tried peanutt butter, yogurt,cheesed,ham,chicken.I have tried opened her mouth and putting the pill down her throat and massaging her throat until she swallows but she just waits and spits it back up. I even tried hiding the meds in a peice of twinky last night with no success. Help please. I need ideas...

Two things that you try. First thing is when you put the pill down her throat you can hold her mouth closed gently and then just blow a quick puff of air into her nose. Normally the immediate reaction is to swallow the pill because they stick the tongue out to lick the nose. Another thing that works is just placing the pill in a piece of cut up hotdog. They love the hotdog so much that they don't notice the pill. Good luck!
Grunt gets meds throughout the day, so we have both become pros at giving and taking pills! From time to time, he will not swallow a pill (they are small) and will keep it in his mouth and spit it out after getting his "treat" (I don't know how he does that!!). I will let him take a small bite, put the pill in his mouth immediately followed by the rest of the treat. It works 99% of the time. Good luck!

My dogs will eat anything so I've never had that problem with them. The cat, however, is a different story. The vet gave us this long wand looking thing that helps poke a pill down far enough so they can't spit it back up. Works great on a cat and I imagine it would on a dog also.
With Markus what I used to do is have 3 pieces of cheese (Kraft cold pack cheese worked the best as it is very strong smelling and pliable). I would have the pill in piece number two. I would give him the first pill. He could check it carefully and he wouldn't find anything. I would then give him piece number two and quickly follow it with piece number three. He would always quickly swallow the second one as the third one was coming. It always worked. I also found that he would always eat a gelcap without any problem. When I was giving him Glucosamine and Chondrotin. Markus wouldn't eat the Chondrotin pill, but didn't have problem with the Glucosamine, which was a powder in gel cap, so I would empty out the gel cap with the glucosamine powder, onto his food and then put the Chondrotin tab in the gel cap. He would then eat them both with his food without a problem.
Seven pills a day could be a bit a problem. Just try different things to see what works.

Jan's method also worked for me. Riley has to take medication every day for urinary incontinence. Luckily, he's great with taking his meds and he'll take them no problem without any bribery. He's definitely the best dog that I could've ever asked for!
Mason on the other hand is the difficult one. He had to take pain meds and antibiotics after he split his side open. For him I had to be sneaky. Sometimes I had to give him 2 or 3 pieces of cheese before he'd finally take the piece with the pill. Even the chewable Heartworm pills have to be crushed and blended into his food or he won't eat them. He's such an oddball!
Of course always praise when they take each piece so they know they're doing good. It took some time with Mason, but eventually he accepted it. Good luck!
