We have a 16 month old female boxer, NIKA, and are considering getting a male boxer puppy ( 8 weeks ). Can anyone out there tell me their experience with 2 boxers. What are the pros and cons of having 2...and how did it affect the older one? Do they get jealous if their attention is being shared now?

I got my second boxer this past August to be Ozzy's best friend. Ozzy is 3 and didn't really take to the puppy all that well. He's been totally spoiled by me and is used to all the attention and will fight with the puppy on occasion. I have to say it hasn't been easy and he still isn't housebroken!!!! He'll be one in June and is still having accidents but i am happy to have a companion for ozzy. It makes leaving for work a lot easier on my mind knowing that they have each other. They definately don't forget about you, they need and love you all the same but there are dominance issues that just need to be sorted out by them. There is more work involved but it's all worth it if you ask me!!! I can't imagine my life without them and i don't think i'll ever be with just one boxer again. If the puppy wasn't so hard to housetrain i think i'd be thinking of another one soon!!!

Good luck
Andrea

We have 2 males, Tucker is 13 months and Titus is 14 weeks. Our boys get along great, Tucker is very laid back so we knew it would be fairly easy bringing a puppy into the home. Since Tucker is still a big puppy he loves having a play toy and someone to chase him around the house; our house has turned into romper room but it is great. Tucker was spoiled so at times he looks sad or jealous and whines every now and then. Titus on the other hand often times is so tired from playing he wants to sleep so he has learned to love his crate (big positive).

Negatives are I often don't feel like I have spent enough time with each so I try to do things with them together and then with each separately...thus more time on your part. They cost more (food, vet, etc.) and sometimes it is easier training Titus cause he learns from Tucker and other times it is harder.

Overall, the positives outweigh the negatives big time and we wouldn't gve up Titus for the world.

2 boxers, ah!

Let men tell you havng 2 boxers is an experience. Boris was 2 when I got Mocha six months ago. She was 7 wks when we brought her home. I was afraid at 80 lbs Boris may hurt her, and it seemed like at first he had to learn what was too rough for her. He never intentionally hurt her, but being a boxer he was rough. She'd let him know what was too rough and they would keep on playing (at what seemed too rough to me, but they didn't think so). They play constantly and are always together.

They don't forget you but Boris is definitely less under foot now. Plus he now has someone who can play with him and not get worn out as fast as I do. Even though now I get tired from just watching them play. If you have space and budget to feed and care for two boxers, I recommend it.

Having 2

We have 2 males from the same litter they are 9mths old and although a little stressfull to start with (house training esp) it is the best thing i have ever done.
Everyone said we were mad and would never be able to train 2 . well were not doing to bad we take seperate time with each dog to play and to train, we also go to puppy school.recall is still a little bit hairy but it's getting there.
Once in a blue moon we have pistols at dawn but most of the time they snuggle up together. unless that is one teaching the other a naughty new game which is great fun!!(opening my dining room door jumping over the couch to say hello comes to mind).
Don't know how it would be with different ages but 2 for us is far better than 1.

Having 2 boxers is definately better than 1! Corky and Xena were the best of friends. Corky was 5 when we brought Xena home and it was a little rough at first. When Corky died a few weeks ago, Xena was heartbroken and became quite depressed. We brought home a new little boxer pup, Lexi, a week after Corky left us. Xena has been wonderful with the little girl and has a wonderful playmate/sleepmate. They do play rough at times, but Xena has always been quite careful with her. I'm amazed that there haven't been any jealosy issues on Xena's part. Xena will be 2 in March and has all the energy needed to keep up with the new addition. Good luck.

Barkley

We had some reservations...will Barkley still feel as loved? Will they get along? Can we love another one as much as we do Barkley? Well, let me just tell you....we got baby brother Jordan about 4 months ago and we honestly wonder what we (or Barkley) ever did without him! Though we're very good about spending time with them, we no longer have to worry quite so much about leaving them (or just ignoring them for a bit) when we do have to, as they have one another for company. You must be prepared for craziness, though...forget about glass figurines on your coffee table, etc. They rough-house like you wouldn't even believe! That took some getting used to, by the way...I thought they were going to hurt each other. But, seems that's just how they play. I'll tell you, one of the best things we did in the way of training was to buy a coupler for Barkley's leash, so that they both are walked on the same leash. That has gone a very long way in leash-training the little guy much more quickly than he otherwise would have been. Anyway, they're fast friends and we get so very much entertainment out of the two of them together. I say go for it! Let me know if you have specific questions!
