I am the proud "mom" of an eleven month old reverse brindle boxer boy. He is a boxer pup through and through, hyper, mischievous, a little dominant, stubborn and beautiful, sweet, gives the best kisses, wiggly and snuggly, yeah he deffinately has the typical boxer traits. My biggest problem with him is him getting into things. He misbehaves when we are busy cooking dinner or just not focusing our attention on him. My fiance and I work and are raising three kids so things are kind of fast paced and busy in our home, we have time for the dog, and when we don't we make time. However I can't help but think he would benefit from having a boxer friend. I am not up for another puppy, but I would love a 5 or 6 year old shelter dog. My thoughts are it will help him to have someone to play with, get some more of his energy out, and just also to have some company when we are at work. Not to mention, I would love to have another boxer around. Please give me your opinions 1 boxer versus 2 and also there is one dog I had my eye on, but he is deaf, any thoughts on raising a deaf dog?? Any advice or comments would be greatly appreciated! - thanks

I think you will find that mostly everyone here who responds would applaud your decision to give a home to a boxer in need. There are so many out there! I adopted Titus from a shelter when he was three (he will be eight in April) and a couple years later, we "found" Lady wandering the streets. Two boxers definitely doubles your pleasure and fun! And they are good for each other. I give you a thumbs up for adopting an older dog. You don't have to deal with the "puppy stuff." Sorry I can't give you advice on the deaf issue, but there are plenty of people here who probably can!appicon

when we first got lucy (as a puppy) we had no idea that we were going to want another so badly and so quickly!!!

i can tell you that two IS better than one (in my opinion). we made the choice that you are considering....rescue! it is the single best thing you can do. we made the decision and adopted casey (just 3 months older than lucy). he was a wonderful addition to our family!

i am a rescue advocate...i work for a rescue organization (after adopting casey i decided to get involved) and also volunteer for a local shelter. please seriously consider it...they will entertain and occupy one another when you can't...and it's so wonderful to save a boxer! especially an adult one...everyone seems to love a puppy, but forgets how WONDERFUL it is to adopt a dog that is full grown and already potty trained! good luck with your decision!

Great for you for wanting to rescue! :D

When our boxer female was 8 months old we decided to get another boxer. We rescued a two year old male. I have to say it was a great decision for two resons.

1) Who wouldn't want more boxers? They are just the best!

2) Our little girl is not so demanding of our undivided attention all of the time. If we are busy, it is Grant (rescue's) job to keep her busy. He doesn't mind at all. When he has had enough, he lets her know and snuggles with us. By this time we have been trying to get her attention to play with us.

Always keep in mind that it is double responsibility with two, but it is worth it. We don't find it harder to take care of two. We actually find it easier.

Good luck! :)

I agree with Krookeddave. Krookeddave and I adopted our rescues from the same rescue organization. Bacchus and Roxy just love each other & keep each other company. Bacchus is such a GOOD boy. Roxy on the other hand, is a handful (sooo spoiled)
We just adore them. Rescue is the way to go!!! Sissy ;)
