GREAT JOB!!!! Congrats!! On Friday, it will be 3 1/2 years for me and I was a 2 pack a day smoker. My secret was gum. At any given time I would have at least 5 different types of sugarless gum (fruit, mint, bubble gum flavored). I would walk around the city chewing straws too.

Keep up the good work. Hopefully your BF shares your attitude and no one will be the first to cave!!! We are here for you!!!!

Andrea, hang in there!!! We are here for you too!!!!
Great success story! We are all rooting for you! Smoking is a very bad habit and expensive to boot! I applaud you for quitting, stay strong!!

congrats!!!!!

think something's else....
I was a smoker too bt not very heavily. I quit the moment I learned I was pregnant. I am 6,5 months pregnant right now. I didn't think it would be that easy.. trust me, think of something else, take that thought off your mind.

Now, Baris has also lessened his cigarette intake considerably :D He's down to 1-2 cigarettes a day, never when I'm around;)
I hope he will completely quit once the baby is born:)

good luck!

Congrats to all of you that have made the effort to quit smoking and be healthy! My DH has been smoking still (even after I quit 7 years ago) and I am always on his case to get him to quit. I try to tell him the main reason is because I love him so much and don't want to lose him B4 his time. (His mom is very sick with emphysema and heart disease from all the smoking she has done.) The way I see it is there are so many people that love and need you (and fur babies of course), the best gift you can give your spouse, family members, children is being there, and making the effort to be healthy as long as you can. My mom and grandparents are very healthy for their ages because of what my mom calls "clean living", none of those habits that cause you serious health issues. That is the best gift that they have given us, being there for us!! I agree with Baby Bella, I don't know I how is did it when I used to smoke, now I cannot stand the smell of it, literally makes me nauseous. My DH knows he has to change his clothes, use mouthwash, wash his face and hands before he gets any lovin from me. :) I really hope you can stick with it, we want all our BW friends to be healthy and be around to share their stories and boxer babies with us!! Good luck!

As a dental hygienist I am very proud of you and know you can do it. Just as everyone says, chew gum, chew anything! I had a cousin who quit using the nicotine patches. You may try those out as well. You are doing your health and teeth a wonderful favor. I am here if you need me!

Kudos to you for trying to kick the habit!! It was one of the hardest habits for me to break, and I only wish I had quit sooner - I was diagnosed with emphysema at the relatively young age of 40. ~

Congratulations on quitting! The longer you go without one the easier it gets. I quit 15 years ago and it was one of the smartest things I ever did. Think of all the $$$ you are going to save!

First I'd like to say congrats!!!! It's a huge undertaking, DH has done it a few times, but he hasn't quit quitting (and I told him he better quit before the new baby shows up or he will have to change clothes after every cig).

I celebrated 2 years smoke free (not even 1 puff since then) on May 12th of this year and still going strong (quit before getting pregnant with my second son). It's tough, I smoked for the oral fixation/habit, I hated the taste (that made it easy to quit). So, to kick the habit I changed my vice (switched to gum, straws, toothpicks, pens, whatever was lying around) and changed my schedule and routine. I used to smoke in the car all the time, so instead I used to keep a pack of gum where the ciggarettes used to be and so on.

Also, bought myself a new car as my reward for stopping smoking (and justified the extra $115/month on the car payment (above the old car payment) by what I was saving in smokes. Clean car that didn't smell like smoke and no money to buy cigs :) worked out well for me. Plus, no way I was going to give up my brand new Explorer.

The dreams were the worst part for me. I didn't do the patch or anything (they gave DH horrific nightmares), but I still have dreams that I'm chain smoking and it FREAKS me out! I wake up in a sweat thinking I have to give up my car LOL

Good luck to you all who are on that path (or those that keep trying to get on), it's a tough habit to kick but the rewards are well worth the pain and agony.
