Hi everyone .. I have not been here since my white boxer was stolen years ago and I cry over my Petey still ... but I am frantic about my fawn and white boxer Jake! ..My boxer started panting with short sharp breaths .. I adopted this sweetheart from a shelter 3 years ago and he has become the happiest, sweetest guy! .. X Rays shows cloudy lungs .. almost all white .. fungal or cancer?? My vet is not sure and he sent out the x rays and the experts are not sure .. he is being treated with prednisone and lasix to keep him comfortable.. Basically, he is dying and I am devastated .. They first thought fungal but said there was a mix in his lungs. This all happened in a matter of 2 weeks .. He was fine at his yearly check up .. Then the short breaths started about a week later .. bloodwork comes up fine .. yet his lungs are swirls of white with little knobby white things but they said they are not sure! .. Anyone?? ..... Totally heart broken .. The vet more or less said he can only make him comfortable ... I am devastated ... and need help in a hurry!

Call the UF veterinary college and see if they can get him in. They will probably give you the best answers. Lots of positive and healthy (((vibes))) to Jake and {{hugs}} to you!

This is so sad. But it did remind me of an article I read this morning and sent to a couple of friends. While it is from the silver industry, I have read of the merits of colloidal silver in other health letters. It specifically mentions fungal iniectiions in the article. Worth a read.

The Colloidal Silver Hand Book

I hope you get answers and Jake gets help.

I second the suggestion to get to a vet hospital to figure out exactly what is going on. Maybe they can do a biopsy to see exactly what is causing the white swirls and breathing issues.

I hope you get good answers and your Jake feels better soon.

Congestive Heart Failure

CarolM, i'm so sorry to hear about Jake. Has you vet considered congestive heart failure. our boxer Joe was diagnosed with that and his chest x-ray showed a very similar image to that you observed. If it is congestive heart failure, there are medications that you can administer that will make him feel much better. The situation does sound dire, but they may be some things that will ease his discomfort in the short term.

appreciation for thoughts

I took my Jake to another vet who confirmed my vets diagnosis .. lung cancer .. this vet said that no doubt it is such .. he changed meds and put Jake on carprofen instead of prednisone .. Jake is now on lasix, doxycycline, carprofen, and a chemo type pill called cyclophosphamide ... He said to do a biopsy is futile because he is sure this is cancer. The University here would be know help as he is sure Jake is far too advanced with this dreaded thing. What stuns me is that it appeared so quickly. Only late November he started with the short breaths and had 2 seizures and that is when I rushed him to the vet. The X rays were horrifying. I have cried and wept and still stay in a tormented shock. This precious boy of mine was adopted only 3 years ago from an awful shelter .. the scars on his body tell the tale of his former life. It took me months just to let him know he would not be hit because when you approached him, he would cringe, he begged to drink water yet shook at the water bowl so I was thinking someone hit him when he drank water! I encouraged him to play, to run with me, to bark happily and do *kidney beans* without the fear of getting hit. He was just learning to be so happy and now this .. He was just starting to relax and be spoiled and now this .. I am just sickened inside and all I do is cry and I feel so damn helpless .. He is such a sweetheart .. my heart is breaking because soon I will have to let him be out of pain and not to be able to breathe is painful .. thank you all of you for caring .. it meant so very much .. Jake has been and still is, pure joy to me and is at my side constantly .. he protects me and guards over me with all he has .. and now I cannot protect him, I can be of no help .. I hold him and just cry and he gives me his paw .. and his breathing is so labored and he can no longer run at all .. thank you for listening .. thank you for caring .. you all are the best ... I'll do all I can for Jake and will love him into eternity .. I'm sure you all know that feeling .. we all love our sweet Boxers .. and life is so unfair ..
