You guys are all so great! I appreciate all the feedback and I'm thankful to know there are so many other people out there who understand.

Many, many thanks....

Well, it's taken almost 6 years (our anniversary would be Feb. 14) but yesterday we both decided to take a break from each other. Part of me was so relieved and part of me is so sad - he's my best friend and I do love him very much. I just can't do this anymore. Both of us are unhappy and our time together has been so strained and stressful lately. I think I convinced myself that we could live happily ever after even though from very early on in our relationship I knew that he was not the right guy for me.
We don't know how to do this but we'll take it one day at a time. He thinks I have my eye on someone else (not!) and I told him many times that's not it at all. I'm having trouble verbalizing everything to him but it's NOT about someone else. I am having major issues with my ex husband (another thread entirely) and my kids need me more than ever now. And you know what else? I want more! I want someone who's going to want to be with my kids, someone who's going to love Daisy and understand my devotion to her.
We have to meet at some point, I have his extra car key and visa versa, I have his house keys, he has an extra crate for Daisy, + little things. AArrghhh!!!! I'm so sad one minute and excited the next. I know that you guys understand.
I want to get involved in rescue and eventually (maybe this spring) bring home a second boxer baby (rescue). Thanks for listening all - I know I'm rambling on and on....I lost most of my friends because of this relationship. I don't know if I can reconnect with the old ones but NEVER AGAIN will I choose a man over my friends. Ever. :(

Anyway, thanks for being there to all at BW. wackicon

First, I want to say congratulations on making the first move to your future happiness. Remember that one day you will not remember the sadness your are feeling now. It is so easy to get stuck in a relationship out of the comfort and familiarity. You deserve someone who will love your whole family, as they are an extension of you. Jealousy has no business being in a loving relationship.. there is no place for it!!!!!!!

Cry it out all you want... Daisy will be right by your side the whole time... Treat yourself to something special... you deserve it for the courage you have shown moving on in your life!!!!

--Thanks for all the well wishes while we were waiting for Porter!

Oh Meredith, I hope by taking this step back you both will find what you need. I have a nephew that was in a 5+ year relationship that they were more like brother/sister than BF/GF. They have since split and are both happier single. Take care girl and things will turn around.

I wish you all the best. Anytime a relationship ends whether good or bad, it's an adjustment and a change of lifestyle. It's different from the norm. Everything changes but most often for the better. I am a true believer of "things happen for a reason".

Good-Luck!

Merideth...I know EXACTLY how you feel! I just ended a 5.5yr relationship too, and I can relate to the rollercoaster feelings! Excited one second...anticipating all the new doors that will open...new found freedom and a sense of peace, then the next second..crying and grieving and missing something that was always familiar, still in love but knowing you want more..NEED more! foolicon
If there is one thing I learned it's that my kids and myself come first and always will! My kids were always so unhappy and I always insisted they could adjust. Well they didn't, and in fact, they rebelled! Then the ex and I had a daughter together and she was learning through our relationship that it was ok to be disrespected! I opened my eyes one day and said enough! My kids and I are getting counselling and doing much better. The ex is also getting counselling which I wish he did along time ago, but at least he is now.
Things will turn around for you...you seem very intelligent and know what you want in life. You have goals and that is important. Follow your heart...go for your dreams. It will all be worth it! :)

Dreams do come true....

Whatever you do don't lose hope EVER! Daisy will be right by your side to be your friend always.

Some day your prince charming will come along who knows maybe you'll meet him while you're both out walking your dog in the park. If you have my luck it will be while scraping poo off your shoe and you'll have to think up some witty charming remark to mask your embarrassment!

Just keep in mind that life is what you make it and that the best things in life aren't planned!!!

Best of luck and we're all with you!!

marybeth18, I am also dealing with the loss of a relationship with someone I still love. There are good days, and there are bad days, but the future calls...

I just have to believe that everything happens for a reason, and one day it will all work out.

It's hard. OK sometimes it feels impossible, but we've all done this before. We know that one day the pain ends (or eventually gets to be a small, quiet saddness in stead of a huge, loud one :D ) and we can move on with our lives and find a greater happiness.

((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
and warmest wishes.
