What is the best working, non-stinking flea/tic protection?

I hate flea/tic collars.........just because of the looks of them. We used the Hertz liquid protection last year that you squeeze on the neck and the length of the back.........but it stunk like hell and made here oily and greasy.

Is Frontline the same mess...........or is it better?

We are giving baths every 2 weeks with Zodiac flea/tic shampoo to help in the protection.

Any help or tips would be great.

Thanks,

Steve

Hey we use frontline it isn't that bad it is only greasy for a couple of hours so they stay outside. I've never heard of that shampoo before but you may be bathing too much which will cause dry skin..I think you are only supposed to bathe them every couple of months(correct me if I'm wrong) if they get really dirty we hose them down with the hose pipe..good luck!!!

The directions say to use every 2 weeks to keep up protection........it's not very soapy but more for the flea/tic protection.

I hate flea/tic collars..........that is why I would like to know if Frontline is as nasty as the Hertz one.

we use frontline

I have heard that if its available in the pet-store, it's no good for flea protection. And yes, I heard this from people not my vet.

Anyway, it's slightly oily for a few hours but I havent noticed a stink at all. You are probably bathing her too much. The vet told us that in order for it to be effective, the dog needs at least 4 days of body oils to spread the frontline around. If you are bathing her every 2 weeks you are probably washing off any flea protection. I haven't had any experience with, or heard of, the shampoo you mention, though.

Good luck! :)

Steve,
My vet gave my Advatage to try for the first time and I really liked it. She siad that because I bathe Calla 3-4 times a month (depending on stinkiness and dirtiness), Advantage is better than Frontline because it does not wash off. She said that Frontline will wear off if the dog comes into too much contact with water. Also, the greasy spot is not as bad with Advantage. As far as killing fleas, it has not gotten hot enough down here yet to tell which works better.

Personally, I have never come across a flea collar that works and think they are a waste of money. Same is true for any flea/tick stuff you can buy from walmart or the like. Joey is on Frontline Plus and I put it on him once a month, before I go to bed at night. Since he will be in his crate, usually by morning, the greasiness is gone and I know he hasn't rubbed it off on the furniture or carpet.

I am currently semi taking care of a neighborhood stray. She's a black lab and I bought some of the flea/tick drops from walmart and well, they are NOT working more than a week or so. Total waste of money so I guess I will do something else once this pack is up.

I use revolution which is for fleas, ticks, heartworms, and round worms. It works great. It is not greasy at all. And the vet said it does not wash off either. You just dont want to bathe them for 48 hrs after treatment. I like it and I only have to remember one treatment a month not two.

We use Frontline Plus on our Boxer & Rottweiler. It's not stinky at all & only leaves a greasy spot on the back of their neck for a few hours. The trick when using Frontline is to not bathe the dogs 2 days before or 2 days following application of the treatment. I believe the skin oils carry it all over the body... It works great for us !!! We also give Interceptor monthly to prevent heartworms & other parasites.

Frontline plus

I use frontline plus on my boy. I also bath my dog quite often and this one is waterproof. To avoid the oily mark on his back, I apply it before bed.
It works out perfect and my 1 and 4 year old never get it on themselves! The only thing I would do is wait a day or so before you bathe him/her after you apply it.

Is Advantix better then Frontline?

Advantix says it protects against Fleas, Tics, and Mosquitos. That sounds like it protects much better and against more then Frontline.

I can get a 6-pack of Advantix for 55+ lbs for about $50......is that good?
