I feel so bad for feeding my babies Nutro after reading some very helpful links. I have seen allot of good things about Innova, and I would like to switch over. Nutro had puppy large breed and I dont see that Innova has that option. Does anyone know if that should be a problem or am I ok feeding the regular Innova puppy?
Of course I will mix in the Nutro with the Innova....we have switched food before. :) Thank you guys in advance.

I'm not an expert, but have done quite a bit of research the past 2 years and I see no problem feeding regular puppy food. You should be fine. Don't feel too bad about feeding them Nutro - except for their Premium variety, they don't use by-products, bha/bht and ethoxyquin in their food!

I also noticed in another post you tried Solid Gold - they're one of the best! Did it not agree with your pups?

Thanks Lisa ;) and Solid Gold upset Rayna's tummy pretty bad....we tried it for 2 months or a little over that...and it just didn't work for her. I'm wondering if Innova will do the same.

If you haven't purchased the Innova, I would ask if you can get a couple of samples*. Have you had time to compare ingredients between the SG and Innova? I've noticed from other posts here, that some dogs have a hard time with processing both turkey and chicken (the first 2 ingredients) - I'm certain you're aware that's a rich food. BUT... Diego has a sensitive tummy too and he happens to do well with it. He's been on it for 18 mos now :). Neura/Wellness is another good one I'd consider too. Also, the makers of Innova makes Healthwise that offers an alternative protein source. You can learn more about it here, just scroll down: http://www.naturapet.com/display.php?d=hea-home

*P.S. If you can't get samples, let me know - I can pick up samples at my petstore and send them to you!

My 11 week old is on Eukonoba and Bill Jac. Both dry and I mix it with water. He does fine. He came home from the breeder on that.

My vet suggested that I mix the Euko with a canned food if I wanted to put some weight on him but he said his weight is perfect. At his 1o week check up he was 12 3/4 pounds.

But what caught me funny is that he suggested Mighty Dog as the canned food. I said to myself I CANT WAIT to tell my boxerworld buddies this one.

Is this common?? I am going to mix the Euko canned puppy with it instead.

Dempsey J. used to "need" canned food mixed with his dry. Before he switched to Innova, he wouldn't eat kibble plain. My vet said that canned dog food should be used just as a taste enhancer, and since you won't be giving them much of it, it doesn't really matter what brand it is. Even the cheapest, junkiest brand will do.

Dempsey J. doesn't get any "junk" anymore, not even in treats (Innova health bars rule!) but I do understand where the vet was coming from when he told me this. I guess two tablespoons a day isn't all bad; humans eat chemicalized, processed junk all day long. Now I just care more about my baby's diet than my own.

Molly is on Innova and is doing great. She gains at least a few pounds a week and everyone absolutely loves how shiny her coat is. I also mix in some home made spaghetti sauce to kind of coat the kibble (which I also soak in warm water for a few minutes) and Molly absolutely loves it, and her stool is very firm and does not smell.
By the way, dont feel bad about feeding your babies Nutro. Its one of the best as well.

Hello All

My 12 weeker is on Eukonoba and while in PetSmart a Nutro rep. said that there are alot of by products in Eukonoba. This is what he came home with from the breeder.

Are there many Eukonoba fans out there?? Is Nutro a better choice for health??

At first I bought Eukanuba for Molly, until I learned that there are a ton of by-products and chemicals and filler in it that are not good for dogs. From what I learned, Proctor and Gamble (I think it was them) bought the Iams company a few years back and turned their products into filler and garbage. Nutro has no by products and if you buy Nutro Natural Choice, it has glucosamine in it which is excellent for bone joints.
Currently I feed Innova, which is a human grade kibble with no byproducts. I personally dont think their is a better kibble than Innova, and Molly does great on both Innova and Nutro.

Des,
Yes, Nutro is a better food than yukkynuba (love how Tulsa-Dan coined the name ;) ) because they don't use by-products like Troy mentions. Alot of members feed Nutro Nat'l Choice here and their dogs love it. Additionally, stay away from BHA/BHT and Ethoxyquin in foods and *treats* too! You're a good Daddy for asking :D!
