Can frequent urination be a behavioral problem?
I took Gatsby to the vet on Friday and she said that UTI's in males are not very common, but prescribed 1200 mg of antibiotic/day. I do not want to give him the antibiotic until the results of the urinalysis come in and we know it is a UTI for sure.
He has lots of energy, great appetite, does not drink more than usual. Last Wednesday he peed in is crate in the morning, he did the same the following morning, now he asks to go out really early and he keeps asking to go out during the day and when he goes out he pees a decent amount in his spot (just once - he does not mark). He did not have accidents in the house, so incontinence is not an issue. He does not lick down there, nor does he appear to strain when peeing. I wonder if this is something behavioral or more serious than a UTI?

No, frequent urination cannot be a behavioural problem. Or at least, not when it's large amounts of urine. He can't manfacture decent quantities of urine on demand ;) If he's peeing bucket loads, it's a physical thing.

Frequent urination of very small amounts would tend to indicate a UTI, or very possibly marking - but he probably wouldn't be asking to go out in that case ;).

Your vet is the one best placed to determine whether the problem is related to an infection, or if there's something else wrong there. Kidney problems, for example, is one possibility (but so too is simple infection, so I wouldn't get too concerned straight away).

Overactive bladder

Hey Laila is having the same problem. We haven't taken her to the vet yet because we need to purchase insurance for her. Once we do that we will take her. She is constantly peeing. She don't drink that much on a daily basis and still come out with alot of pee. We keep her out to pee atleast twice thinking that it is going to take care of it. Nope I was wrong about a half hr to an hour later she is ready to go back out. And if we don't get to her soon enough she will pee in her crate. She does well at night by holding it there was one time she woke me up at 1:30 and she peed on the floor. I am at wits end with this. I don't know what else to do. Help
