that may be true but i doubt for all jack russell terriers, i mean i could be wrong, but it reminds me of the whole 'all pit bulls will turn on you' theory.

we had a neighbor who had a jack russell terrier (sophie) and a cat and they got along great. sophie was a couple of years old and was incredibly hyper but an absolute doll!

if they are getting along well now with no exceptions, i should think they will be fine together :)

I did a lot of research before I decided on what dog to get. I really had my heart set on a Weimeraner because my parents had one when I was little and I have such fond memories of him. But through my research I discovered that they are a hunting breed and that prey drive is just too strong an instinct to overcome. True, your Weim. could live happily forever with your cat but odds are that one day the cat will move a certain way that kicks in the hunting instinct and bye-bye kitty. You just can't expect hundreds and hundreds of years of breeding and instincts to be over-riden by a firm "no". I decided against getting a Weim. and so I discovered Boxers. Yippee! But anyway - I can't expect the little girl to deny her instincts simply because I say "no". And I value my pets' lives too much to take the chance. She's already killed a squirrel and a rat and I've only had her for 4 days.

Well I think you should give her a bit more of a chance. Has she shown any aggression towards the cat? I mean a boxer can just as easily attack the cat, mine did! I have known atleast 4 JRT's and they have been incredibly sweet dogs. The one across the street is such a sweet little girl and she loves everything and anybody.

Why don't you try and do research on people who do have jack russells(sp) and cats?? Remember they've alway said that dogs and cats don't get along but most of the time its how both are socialized. We have three dogs, three cats and three birds. Now my cats are supposed to kill the bird, but with the exception of one cat I can have the other two out when my cockatiel is I just keep them closely supervised when the bird is out.

I posted 2 pictures of her in my gallery if anyone wants to take a look. We have an appointment with the vet today.

She hasn't really shown aggression towards the cats but she does harrass them. She sniffs at them and jumps at them. When one of them swats at her she runs away - but in a "wow that was fun" kinda way rather than a "i'm scared of that kitty" kinda way.

awww, she is cute! looks like Nala found a new friend

have you found out what you're going to do with her yet?

i actually researched a little for you and i have found some websites that say JRT's and cats just do not always mix, but i've found other ones (the same amount of each) that say they are a wonderful mix and have never had any sorts of problems! i guess if you want to keep her, it's just something you're going to have to test out - seems to be doing well so far!

good luck with that little girl, she seems very lucky to have found you! ;)

Cute dog and for now I would just make sure you supervise them when the kitties and dogs are together and also if necessary separate them if you leave the house. One other thing when the dog does the run of things and you are at home make sure the kitties have a place to get away from the dog with their food and litterbox. You may already know this being you have dogs already but I thought I would suggest it just the same.

Your found dog might just think the kitties are fun right now because they are new, she might get bored with them in a while too..

K House I know from experience that just because a dog has had all of its shots doesn't mean that they can't get sick from another dog brought into the home. My daughter got a dachshund and chihuahua mix puppy and it made Shakira very sick, I had a thread about her being sick. This puppy had a respiratory infection that we didn't know about and I didn't see anything at all wrong with Shakira playing with it since Shakira had all of her shots, but Shakira did get sick, really sick, pnemonia and we almost lost her. As far as the JRT gettting along with cats, my sister had one and he loved the cats, I think it is just like one other member said all animals are different, not all pit bulls are mean some are really sweet, so I would do what others have suggested and that is just test the waters for a while and see for yourself what is going to happen. At any rate your boxer seems to love this little guys company.
