I thought I was giving my girl a unique name, I had no idea there were so many female boxers named "Roxy"! Why did you chose the name?

I figured our girl was going to be a bit of a spitfire so I wanted her name to reflect that somewhat.

Also, does your Roxy have a middle name? Ours does, it started out as Rose because my daughter loves the name Rose but we have been debating switching it to "Lu" I have a habit of calling her "Roxy Lu Lu" when playing with her.

Our Roxy was with us a couple of days before we decided on a name and Roxy seemed to fit her well. I could tell she was going to be a real challange and very SASSY!

I really have not run across any dogs named Roxy until I found BoxerWorld- I was really suprised how many there are, which led to my question.

Thanks for answering Cindi, it's fun to hear the reasons

Well, my husband just picked it!! It has fit her so well though. She is so spunky and fiesty. She also loves to talk back to us, woo-wooing all the time. The name is so fitting. I know it was weird coming on here for me and seeing SO many Roxy's. It is just a boxer name I guess.

Maybe it is a Boxer thing-

Now that I think about it, it seems like all golden retrievers are named Buddy! lol

Completely Boxer Crazy
Well.............

Our Roxie is 13, so back then you really didn't hear the name. As you said, we couldn't name her somethin like pumpkin or lilly, just to cutsie, nothing wrong with those names, just not for her. My cousin had a racoon that he rescued when the mother was killed, he raised her to a certain age then realeased her to the wild, well, she used to bite the crap out of him, soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. There you have it!!!!

I had never "run into" anyone with a ROXY until I happened upon 'Boxerworld' When we adopted our boxer girl my 17 year old daughter thought that 'Roxyboxy' sounded cute so there you have it! Nothing really creative went into her name and I call her 'missy' most of the time (where that came from is anyones guess) :) I have a nickname for everyone that I care about (my furbabies included) and it sometimes changes......
My husband just laughs and says he never knows what the heck I am going to call em' next :)
Love to hear though that I am not alone in the nickname habit.....:o

we named our's roxee because

She is the female version of a Boxer. And everyone knows that Rocky is the most famous t.v. boxer of all time. It is now spelled with the ee because of our daughter Emilee.

I have a Roxy, and I helped the breeder name her, she is Islander's (kennel name) Roxy girl. I named her Roxy because she was so crazy spunky from day one, and I love the Roxy brand surf boards. Also, I love naming my guys brand names, because you can find stuff with their name on it. I have Roxy stickers, t-shirts, hats, scarves, a leash set, and most recently and best of all, a neon Roxy sign that I got off of e-bay! I hung it in the sunroom, over her crate! I'm going to repaint the room, and try to make it look like a little pub, and have it "Roxy's place" kinda theme. I already plan to name my hopefully coming soon, brindle boy, Guinness. I like to be unique, but I fell in love with that name for a brindle guy from up here, so I'm copying the other Guinness's here (I think there are atleast 2, I know CondoPup (holly) and I know I've seen it other places, too).
