We have a 5 year old cock-a-poo that was not crate trained and has roam of the house. We just got a 9 week old boxer pup and tried the same training with her. We "attempted" to gate her in the kitchen day one and found out she is quite the escape artist. Came home to find her and the old dog asleep on the sofa together. So we left her be, nothing was detroyed and only a few minor accidents.

However, our old dog is a little stressed by the new pup and the constant wanting to play. After talking to a few of our friends with boxers everyone highly recommended crate training. So we bought a crate 2 days ago and have reluctatnly put her in everyday before work. We come home to find a complete mess of poop flung outside of the cage... all of her toys, blankets, etc are covered. My boyfrined got home first yesterday and I thought he was just being a typical man and over exaggerating becuase he didn't want to clean it up. But flinging poop doesn't even begin to describe the mess! All I can say is really glad we didn't get a white boxer!

We come home at lunch to let her out, we let her out before we leave in the morning, and she does not have food in the crate, only water.

We keep laughing its like the monekys at the zoo. It was cute the first day now its just gross. When she was outside the crate she never once pooped in the house but the crate has seme dot bring the "monkey" out of her. Anyone else with the same problem or any suggestions?

when we first got buttercup and started crate training when we were gone she would become a "poop slinger" as well. she eventuallly stopped, after about 2 months, and now she has no probs at all. when she quit flinging the poop she started having anxiety attacks when left alone in her crate during the day. those didn't go away till we got our rescue tes. then the anxiety attacks completely disappeared!

good luck with your lil poop slinger

How big is your crate?

The crate should only be big enough for her to stand up and turn around. This way she will not have room to make her mess and sleep. I am sure you have heard this before. You can buy dividers for crates or you could make your own. This might help you a little bit!

The crate we bought is 28x42, with a divider. Currently she is in a space about 28x22, enough room for the pad and space for water dish..

She has settled down over the weekend, but now we stop home every 2 hours while at work just to be sure we don't have more incidents, at least until she's a bit older.
