First Dunk In Pool

WE WERE AT MY FRIENDS HOUSE THE OTHER DAY AND SHE HAS AN ABOVE GROUND POOL, HER DOGS WILL GET IN AND EVEN SIT ON FLOATS AND HANG OUT IN THE POOL. WELL COLA HAS NEVER EVEN SEEN A POOL AND WAS ON THE DECK TOUCHING THE WATER WITH HER PAW, SHE REACHED FOR MY FRIENDS MOM AND THE NEXT THING YOU KNOW COLA WENT IN HEAD FIRST! WHILE SHE WAS TRYING TO SWIM, THE LADY AND HER HUSBAND SWAM OVER TO COLA AND WERE LAUGHING AT HER HOLDING HER UP AND TALKING HER TO HER, SHE LOOKED OVER AT MY HUSBAND AND I WHO WERE DRY AND FULLY CLOTHED LIKE AW MA! WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME, GET ME OUT OF HERE. SHE WASN'T TO HAPPY ABOUT HER SURPRISE, I THOUGHT THAT WAS FUNNY. SHE WASN'T THAT GOOD OF A SWIMMER. ARE BOXERS GOOD SWIMMERS? OR DO THEY JUST PADDLE TO SURVIVE AND WHY IS IT THAT THEY DON'T LIKE WATER IN COMPARSION TO OTHER DOGS?

My Bailey is an avid swimmer, she will just run straight into the water never even thinking twice about it. She fell into a little stream the first time in the water so that kind of freaked her out. Ever since then she has been a water lover and a pretty good swimmer. As for Riley, we'll see how she likes water, she is only 5 months right now so maybe soon.

Hopefully Cola will learn to enjoy the water in time. Rebel LOVES the water. He is not a good swimmer as he straight arms and slaps the water, but he is getting better. He finally learned the proper technique from my friends Boxer, Sugar Ray, who swims like a retreiver. One thing to remember is to show Cola, or any dog where the steps are in a pool. If they do fall in, they can panic and not know how to get out. Good luck with Cola and send some photos if she gets in again :)

It took me two days to get Scooter into our pool and once he got the hang of it, he now charges in after me! He still cannot swim very good, his butt sinks! Give your dog some time and he'll come around!

baby pool

we just bought Riley a plastic baby pool for safer and less scary summertime swimming (and bathing, too!) it'll take a little getting used to, but I htink it will be fun for all of us!

Stanley is a GREAT swimmer...his best friend is a black lab (made for swimming) and stanley keeps right up with him...in fact it's hard to keep him out of the water which is kind of a pain when it starts to get cold outside...

We let Abby decide to swim when she wanted. We put her on a beach and waded out, then called and called her. She gave that little boxer whine and looked like she wanted to so bad, then she finally went for it. All went great until the water touched that cute, pink tummy! She retreated, then immediately came back for more. When it got too deep to touch, she just started swimming. Does anyone know how long it takes for them to become effective swimmers? Abby's rear end sinks and she lifts her paws WAY out of the water, splashing with each stroke. She can get where she needs to go, but it just doesn't look very efficient. Oh, yeah, it's very cute though!
