Finding a Breeder - Etiquette

Some of you may know that I had help my boy Cornelius to the Bridge back in April. I didn't think I'd ever be ready for another dog but here I am. I miss the routine, the silliness, the companionship, etc.
Anyway, I went to a dog show last weekend and talked to Cornelius' breeder - they are not breeding any more but will be on the look out for me. My question is, is it OK to inquire with multiple breeders to see if they have or will have litters available? I've sent out 2 emails already but didn't know if that's in bad taste? And if it's OK, how many is too many?

I don't think there should be any problem in talking to multiple breeders. Just don't be secretive about what you are doing.

We talked to several breeders before we got Tank. It was a nice network. He actually came from someone who knows someone who knows someone that knows me. Ha.... all breeders.

Well, to be honest I contacted about 10 breeders and only heard back from maybe 3. That's the problem with Australia, some of these breeders think they are beyond us common folk. But as they say everything happens for a reason, the 3 breeders I was in contact with I was honest with and as soon as we found our Arna I called and told them we had found a pup. The breeder we found was 8 hours drive away, but went for a visit and have since, been back for our George. I am still in contact with the breeder and have become great friends. Our dogs fit our family and I'm glad things worked out as they did.
Contact as many as you want, get to know them, they may become part of your family as much as your dog. Depends what you want.

We lost our poor Juno this past May and I am right there with you about not knowing if I'd be ready for another. Well, I started searching and found 2 breeders I was interested in. I contacted both of them with initial questions and it turns out they both work together! I went with the breeder that was closer to me because they were both neck-to-neck with everything else. I don't think it's wrong to contact multiple breeders, you're trying to find the right dog.
