Female or Male?

I'm with Barron's Mom - Baxter is my first male boxer, having always had females, and he is extremely affectionate, a constant shadow, and much faster at learning than any of my previous pups. I picked out a male for similar reasons to yours - he came into my life very shortly after losing a my much loved Dixie, and I wanted a flashy fawn so that I wouldn't be constantly reminded of Dixie, or be tempted to keep comparing them. While I still love females, I am amazed at the differences in personality - he is a big, goofy cuddle pup who just wants to please.

So very true & we just happen to have one in our girl Ali. :D
Even though Eric is a big sweetie & likes a hug I'd have to say that Ali is more affectionate than him.
She just loves to snuggle up on the couch, whereas Eric is simply happy to be lying at our feet.
If I had to choose between having a female or male in the future I'd have to say that it would be a toss of a coin decision, for I don't think I'd have a preference either way.
As long as it was a boxer I'd be happy.

I can't tell you how much I enjoy hearing from you all -- this truly is inspiring -- I don't know if it's the time of life, season, (or the month), but I'm feeling weepy reading about your Boxers, everyone -- I just pine for our next baby!

Being a new Boxer mom, I have only experienced the female Boxer. But, I can tell you with NO hesitation, that the Boxer will be the only breed of dog I own from now on. I love her soooo much! And she is equally affectionate to us. When we are on the couch, she HAS to be touching us in some way - even if it is just her paw on my leg. She follows us everywhere and is SO well behaved (well...as much as a 5 month old can be ). I think that deciding to get another Boxer is the best move to make! Check out the litter and choose your sex from there. More then likely one of the puppies will pop out at you with their personality, look, etc. You'll know when you find the right one - male or female! :p

I would not hesitate to get another boxer. Obviously your vet has not had a boxer.

My vet and family always had two dogs of different breeds. Then they got their first boxer. When it came time to replace their recently deceased Malemute, they didn't want anything but another boxer. Now both their sons and several of the clinic staff has boxers. He always recommends boxers, even though I tell him they are popular enough.

As for differences between males and females. I have both here and find them both more than loving and fun to be around. However, I do seem to get more attached to the boys?? Just something about them.

Thanx, Draymia! I don't know how I missed seeing your response 'til now, but it's always good to hear from others. It's amazing how many people have said once you've had a boxer, there's no other dog! Many times we have seen people walking their "shi-shi-poo-foo" dogs, and my husband and I have turned to each other and said at the same time, "they should get a REAL dog!" ha, ha, ha....

If I may, I like to share with you my experience so far.
My previous dogs I had years ago were nothing but collies, nothing wrong with the breed and I thought I would always have this type of breed.
I am not thinking that way anymore. Especially since September 2002, when I adopted my first boxer male. I don't think I can settle for any other type of breed again, getting my first fawn male is defiantly one of the best decisions I have made for a fur friend. From the affection, to the personalty of this boxer breed, is just amazing. Through awarding with treats and praise, I can't believe what he learns day after day, thay are so smart so willing to learn. Even for my Chopper who just turning 3 yrs. old he's learned how to roll-over (imagine that) he knows practically every common command, waits for me and my wife to come home from work and how he waits near the front window for my kids to come home from school so that he can see everyone safe and sound. Those facial expressions well, they are trully without a doubt a gas, all I do is laugh after laugh with things he does.
I don't believe you can go wrong selecting this breed, male or female it is your choice.

I have two female boxers....Dixie and Brittany. If I were to ever get another one....I would want a female again.
The reason why....I also have a male Dalmatian....Skylar.
I love the little . But when he was 14 month old he learned to lift the leg....when he did...he stopped letting us know when he wants to go out. So as you can imagine...we have a problem at times if we don't catch him quick enough.
I know that doesn't mean all male dogs will do that....but if you have a female....well, no leg lifting
And in general....I just like the personality that my female boxers

I think it is the individual dog and not the sex. I have had two females who were complete opposite. Lexus had to be right beside you and loved to cuddle. She too had the best personality and I was hesitant if I could every find one like her again. Lucy would live outside if you let her and is very independent. I also have a 12 week old male who is just like Lexus. Wants to be on your lap all of the time. His breeder had characterized him as "needy" which we decided was exactly what we wanted. He had some brothers who were very indepenent.

Having only experience the male for a few weeks, I don't have any thing to offer on the pros and cons of a male v. female. Go with your heart and get another boxer. Find a breeder and choose a puppy that best fits what you are looking for, regardless of sex or color!
