Female humping her stuffed animals?

Last night Monkey was going nuts in her bed and rolling around with a few of her toys and then she stood up with one in her front paws and started (trying) to hump it!

I've heard of female puppies doing this only a couple times... anyone know what it's about? Is she just confused or excited? It seems kinda funny and weird.

Totally normal And not sexual. Well, it is triggered by rising hormone levels in young puppies, but it's got more to do with practicing a dominance manouvre than anything else (and it's still only practicing - the pup isn't trying to dominate her teddy ). They get past that stage pretty early on. And then may do the same, this time on real live individuals, as they approach adolescence. Redirection is generally enough to convince them that it's not appreciated though.

haha okay, thanks Gmacleod. We had a good chuckle at her expense when it happened and other than that I was just curious. I guess I'll stop calling her my little "Herm"(aphrodite) hehe

Diesel used to have "special feelings" for anything stuffed and his doggie bed especially. :rolleyes: Now that he's neutered he was playing with his doggy bed pawing at it and rolling around but no humping anymore!

I have two 9-month-old females and instead of humping their stuffed animals, they hump each other. I've seen a lot of different dogs do this. I don't think its a big deal. But if it's not corrected, sometimes they don't grow out of it. Good-luck.

My Thor does the same thing, and it cracks me up. After he was done humping his teddy bear one day, he layed down and cuddled with it. It gave me a good laugh.

okay i'm glad Cleo isn't the only one doing this...
The first time she humped me she was laying on top of me on the couch. She grabbed hold of my leg and just went to town with it. When she 'got her fix' she just sort of layed there on top of my leg and fell asleep too.

I'm glad this is normal and they'll grow out of it. so far, Cleo has humped my leg twice and boyfriend's leg once. it's kinda difficult to not laugh but you can't help it when they're doing it. hopefuly she'll grow out of it.

She usually humps her bed. As I've no doubt said before, she has alpha female issues. I don't intervene at all. I figure letting her be alpha over her bed is the least I can do since she's losing ground over other things that are more important to me.
