While I was in college my parents got an English Bulldog. My mother wanted to name a dog Brutus so she had to have a bulldog. Mind you, we have had three wonderful boxers prior to this. Brutus had more personality than all three boxers. I know, I know, all of us boxer owners don't believe this.
Bulldogs are not as active as boxers as far as walking them and running with them. But I think they like to play as much as boxers.
Brutus never gave us any problems nor did he have any health problems. The major problem is gas and I do mean gas. He could run you out of the house. Whenever we played cards, Brutus would sit under the table and then, bam, we would all have to leave the room. I don't know if he ever understood why. Boxers can't come close to matching this. He loved to play in the water and he would swim (not great). He had a kiddie pool for the summer and slept on an electric blanket in the winter. He never slobbered, unlike some of our boxers and he never was that interested in people food. After Brutus would drink water, we could hear it sloshing back and forth as he walked. One day he ate crab apples and swelled up and was pretty miserable for a while.
We had to put Brutus down when he was 12 due to kidney failure (old age). I think the age expectancy is 9-years-old.
Brutus has been gone for 12 years and we still miss him. Bulldogs are costly but my memories of Brutus made it worthwhile. Thanks BooBoo!
I love bulldogs almost as much as boxers. It must be those mushed faces.

, but like the others, I cannot deal with the cost. However, the english bulldogs that I see at the dog park are healthy, playful and active. Diego's favorite EB buddy is named Hoover - totally fits his name and gives Diego a good run on who can shake their bootie the most
