While I was in college my parents got an English Bulldog. My mother wanted to name a dog Brutus so she had to have a bulldog. Mind you, we have had three wonderful boxers prior to this. Brutus had more personality than all three boxers. I know, I know, all of us boxer owners don't believe this.

Bulldogs are not as active as boxers as far as walking them and running with them. But I think they like to play as much as boxers.

Brutus never gave us any problems nor did he have any health problems. The major problem is gas and I do mean gas. He could run you out of the house. Whenever we played cards, Brutus would sit under the table and then, bam, we would all have to leave the room. I don't know if he ever understood why. Boxers can't come close to matching this. He loved to play in the water and he would swim (not great). He had a kiddie pool for the summer and slept on an electric blanket in the winter. He never slobbered, unlike some of our boxers and he never was that interested in people food. After Brutus would drink water, we could hear it sloshing back and forth as he walked. One day he ate crab apples and swelled up and was pretty miserable for a while.

We had to put Brutus down when he was 12 due to kidney failure (old age). I think the age expectancy is 9-years-old.
Brutus has been gone for 12 years and we still miss him. Bulldogs are costly but my memories of Brutus made it worthwhile. Thanks BooBoo!

I love bulldogs almost as much as boxers. It must be those mushed faces.

What a site that'd be to see a bulldog swimming !

I love 'em too - I think they're waayyy cute ;), but like the others, I cannot deal with the cost. However, the english bulldogs that I see at the dog park are healthy, playful and active. Diego's favorite EB buddy is named Hoover - totally fits his name and gives Diego a good run on who can shake their bootie the most !

I'm longing for my bully as well. We have already named her Gracie. I have done a lot of research into the breed and knew a wonderful bully named Otis. They are very playful and healthier then some would lead you to believe. If you decide to get one my advice is to spend a lot of time finding a reputable breeder. That will help assure that you have a healthy dog.

I have 2 english bulldogs, Roxy who is 5 1/2 and Maximus who is 2...I also own a female boxer she is 10 months, and I have to tell you they all get along so well.....Max and brandy, play with each other all the time.....its really cute to see them play, especially since The Boxer towers over the bull dog.....Bull dogs are wonderful dogs...and it is true that they have certain medical problems and yes are very, very expensive....but when you own one and see those cute, wrinkley faces, you just dont think about the expense..........My husband and I just love our bulldogs, we treat them like childern and now that we have the boxer we love her just as much.......one thing I can say is that she is soooooo active and makes those bullies chase her all over the yard, tongues start hanging out of theirs mouths, they start slobbering, we have to stop them for a minute so they can catch their breath, of course they never catch her. Thats when Me and husband have to step in, chase her and hold her down ....it just so funny ....hehehehehehe

Bulldog vs Boxer

Hi!
I grew up with an English Bulldog for 14 years and she was wonderful. They are an excelllent breed. They can have breathing problems becasue of there flat nose, but what dog doesn't have a problem. It would be hard to pick one over the other becaue in my opinion they are very much the same. I now have a Boxer and in my opinion I can say that Boxers have much more of personality. Wow you have a hard choice to make, they are both my favorite breeds.

Good Luck:p

Before we got our boxer, we had looked at a couple different breeds - including the EB's. Our former vet, before we moved, bred EB's and always had them at the office. I used to love going there just to play with them! :p

They were always so friendly and well-mannered. Wandering around the office, "chatting" with all the clients, just being adorable... I had brought my Boston Terrier in with a torn leg muscle one day, and while I was standing at the desk holding her one of the bigger bullies came over, stood up and put his front paws on my knee so he could get a closer look - I barely stumbled into a chair before my knee caved in! I tried to explain to him that human legs don't bend that way, but he was too busy snuffling and snorting all over Maggie to pay attention.

I had a rescue English Bullie before I got Jade. He was the most well mannered dog I had ever had. He was active, even at 10 years, and would go on walks, and play just like a puppy. However as mentioned before they do have house clearing gas and drool like a fountain. When I was looking for a dog after he passed away I was torn between the Boxer and Bullie. It was determined I would get a Boxer because I saw a pic of a Bullie (who looked liked BamBam) "kissing" a Boxer on the cheek. Now BamBam is waiting at the bridge.

Megan plays with two English Bulldogs at daycare. They are really cute and expensive as a few have pointed out.
