Elderly Boxers

I felt really bad because when my boxer, Goliath got old, he would follow me everywhere and it was kind of annoying. He also aged like a human would, he seemed to get crazy like he had alztheimer's! it was very sad.
The good thing is that he always acted like a puppy.
he still played with us and did things that he did when we first brought him home. :]

Were going through that now with Roxie, she's almost 13 1/2. Weve had her since she was 7 weeks. Roxie will wander around just looking up at nothing, and she can't hear at all. We use hand motions all the time with her. It's really alot of work. I wouldn't have it any other way and we know everyday with her is a gift. She is however still continent and plays with her brother and sister sometimes. Bless her little heart, we love her to pieces, but, we know the time is comming, she was our first boxer and what a wonderful girl she has been. Im a grateful Mommy, I too get impatient sometimes, then I just stop and think, she can't help it. I'll do this forever to keep her with us and well, but, I know that won't be............

Shadow used to follow me EVERYWHERE! I miss that and the sound of his nails tapping on my hardwood floors. He wondered around aimlessly-before the degenerative mylopathy got so bad - looking for me if I was upstairs (have a gate to keep them downstairs) and at night while we were sleeping.

I love the seniors...I have had my own...God bless Poppy at the Bridge aged 13 and a half
years....... Remembering you is easy...I do it every day
But missing you is the heartache that never goes away

How wonderful to have had a boxer that old. My Autumn went to the Bridge at just 8 and half:(

My 11 1/2 yr old male, Atlas does that. Poor guy is the most loyal friend a person could ask for. He is failing fast and now that we lost our 9yr old Savannah a couple of weeks ago, it makes me know how once again we will have to go through the same thing with him before long. After reading all the Rainbow bridge forums-it also makes me aware we can lose them even when they are young so I try to feel fortunate I had 9yr with Savannah and the 11 1/2 yrs, so far, with Atlas.

I loved the poem from Brit Boxer-"remembering you is easy." How true that is!

Your post brought tears to my eyes. Roxie sounds like such a sweet girl.
Kosmo is only 2 years old and once in a while I wonder how long we have with him. Times seems to go by so fast.
I can only hope that we are fortunate enough to have him around for 11 more years.

believe me: our boy Slash did the very same thing, in fact, he could really act like an old grumpy man, but as for now: I miss him every single minute, I'd love to have him hanging around again, nagging as he could. I even miss thàt...

My previous two boxers only lived to 8 years old each. I'm hoping that Kaster and Haylee will break the tradition and live very long and happy lives.

Please give all your "elderly" babies a kiss from us! It's hard to see them slow down, but cherish every single minute you have with them.
