I need some advise. I have a 7 month old puppy who loves the tast of my lanolium floor. I started when we left him with a sitter at our house for 4 days while we went on a trip. Gilmore would stay in the kitchen durring the day and then in his cage at night. But while we were away he tore about a 3 feet span of my kitchen floor. So we fixed that space with some tile and left it that he was upset with us for leaving him. Well then we left him out in the kitchen as we always do when we go to work and when we came home he found a new spot to dig up! So we fixed that and again he found another spot. Well we finaly have fixed all the spots and put down molding around the whole kitchen so that he could not find another spot to start on... or so we thougth. Gilmore is a very spoiled puppy, he is our child. He sleeps at the end of our bed and last night he got up and we must not have heard him becuase when we finaly noticed he was not there and we went down stairs he had ripped another spot of the lanolium and also had an accident onthe floor. He is now 7 months old had not had an accident inside for a very very long time. People have told me to put him outside durring the day and in his cage at night but we live in upstate NY and we have very long and very cold winters so I have a hard time bringing myself to leaving him out side. He has so many chew toys I cant count them all. We also play with him everynight for about 45 mins and he gets long of excersise so its not that he has to much energy. I have had about 15 boxer dogs in my life and I have never seen a dog do this. Does anyone have any advise???? Thank you

Why not put him in his crate during the day and put a baby gate in your bedroom doorway at night?

Also, do a forum search for separation anxiety, you're sure to get a lot of information!

leroy tries to eat the floor too.
my husband and i couldn't understand why he would do this - he ate two holes in the carpeting. fortunately, the carpeting was old and we ripped it up - wood floors underneath. when we ripped it up, we found all sorts of old stains (this carpeting must have been from the 1960's) under the carpeting and on the padding. we have come to think he was smelling something in the stains that were there. BUT - occasionally, leroy will try to eat the floor in the dining room - wood. we aren't sure if this has to do with something he smells. it is the room we do all of our eating in - so we could of, at one time, spilt something.
definately a weird habit, though. - but our dog also plays with logs:)

We had the same problem with Lexi when she was younger. I would recommend putting him in his crate during the day while you are at work. It also sounds like he's a bit bored. I would try and increase his amount of exercise. At that age it is near impossible to wear them out but boxers are high energy dogs. We keep our bedroom door closed at night so that ours can't roam however when they lay down to go to sleep, they usually sleep through the night. Exercise, Exercise, Exercise :D

I agree with Aimee, you should shut the bedroom door at night so that Gilmore can't roam the house. In the interests of fire safety you should always sleep with your bedroom door shut anyway.

Also lots and lots of exercise in the morning before you go to work. Get up earlier if that's what it takes. A tired puppy is a good puppy. :)

You also might try rotating the toys. They soon get tired of the same old toys, but if you change them everyday, they will be much more interested in them.

Good luck,

I went through a similar problem, we use to leave jake (5mo old male) in the bathroom during the day, until I came home one day to a flooded bathroom and hallway and a crying 3mo old pup who decided he wanted to chew threw the flex pipe between the toilet and water valve, so I went to pet smart and bought him a 8x10x4 kennel for $165.00. I set it up in the garage and he goes there now during the day, granted I can only park one car in the garage now but it was good money spent, at night he sleeps in the bedroom with the door shut, he can jump the baby gate as I found some surprises in the living room in the mornings. I think the kennel is great if you have the room. Just my 2 cents..as I am a newbie and learning my self.
