Does anyone elses boxer like eating wasps? Marshall does this constantly and you don't always stop him in time. He's too quick. It looks really sore because he always gets stung several times. Any ideas of how I can discourage him or do we need to just live with it. Funnily enough it doesn't seem to bother him!

No Hank tried it once, that's all it took for him to steer clear of them. My Eskie loves to eat them. Strange but true. I myself don't get it. Looks like the first sting would scare them away. Like I said it worked for Hank but not my other one.

Strange isn't it. Our Boxer is constantly on the prowl for any bugs. He hunts them down and just yesterday he grabbed hold of another bee. This one stung him in the mouth and his jowl swelled up.

Couple of months ago he got stung near his eye, he looked like he had been beaten with a baseball bat, swelling was unbelievable.

Even after getting stung he just keeps going at it, doesn't seem to bother him either. We just try to keep an eye on him and if he is putting the stalk on a bee we discourage him or redirect.

He got ahold of a June bug this summer that clamped onto his lip, he shook his head and then went right back at it. He don't care, he just wants to catch it.

Just this weekend, before the bee incident, he caught one of these little lizards that run around here. Had it by the tail until the tail broke off and it scampered off. What's next?

It's just really bizare how they will put up with the pain. The worst with Marshall was when he had about 6 wasp stings on one side of his face. And yet the next day he was chasing more!

Ours like bees! wackicon And no matter how many times they get stung... they never learn the lesson!

Chief had one sting him right in the dooper a couple weeks back! That didn't sway him a bit! He still goes at 'em full force.

Sam was attacked by a swarm of ground bees while we were island-camping a year ago...he was paranoid for a minute or ten (but now goes right at 'em again! )

Unfortunately my question is the same as yours! foolicon

Mine has never caught a bee but chases flies like crazy. I wonder if it is just that maybe they have a higher than normal pain tollerance, ours seems to. If you accidently step on his paws because he has to be right under foot he doesn't yelp or anything. I have been wondering if anyone knew if boxers are more tollerant to pain because he has wiped out running down hills, he walked off a small bridge yesterday(don't worry it was only a foot off the ground but it was marshy) leaning over to smell some grass. Nothing seems to bother him. He just gets up , and keeps on going!

We saw an animal behaviourist for a while when Marshall was about a year. She specialised in dogs and had had boxers herself and she did quote some study (I forget what) that said pain th staffordshire terriers have the highest pain threshold out of dogs and that is one of the reasons they don't usually mind children. As for pain I know what you mean. Marshall yelped very first time he was stung but has never complained again despite numerous stings! He also doesn't complain if you tread on him (he is also constantly round our feet :) ) and is always banging into stuff when he's playing and doesn't mind. Pity my human boy didn't complain when he was hurt either!

Eating bees

Star eats bees too! One evening last week, her sloppy lip looked like I took a baseball bat to her....It was swelled and very hard. I always catch her chasing bees, so I'm guessing that one finally chased her back LOL. After a few hours the swelling went down...and it hasnt deterred her. She still chases & eats whatever bee flies by.
