Daisy had her ears cropped (long show cut) when she was about 12 weeks old. She's going on 5 months now and we've been doing the 5 days of taping and 1 day of rest routine since. Right after we take off the tape - her ears are standing beautifully. But then after about 1 day, they are floppy again. Any suggestions on getting her ears to stand? What options do I have? Thanks!

Just keep on taping. :)

I would tape them again as soon as they start to flop. The longer you leave them floppy, the longer it will take for them to stand. It can sometimes take up to a year for them to stand, so don't give up.

I agree ! just stay with it. I was told that even if you think they are standing , the ears will probably fall again when teething. The cartilage does not get set until the dogs molars come through. ( around 8 months) I have seen many puppy boxers at shows with tape on ,until just before going to the ring. GOOD LUCK!!

Hi there. We are having the same problem. Hagler's ears have been cropped since he was 7 weeks and he is now 8 months. They still do not stand on their own for longer than a few days. How do you tape the ears. I don't find this very fun or nice. The tape always pulls out his hair. This is not kind and if I ever get another boxer, I will leave the ears floppy.

Good luck to you.

Titus ears would do the same thing. After a while they would stand except for the last 1-1 1/2 inches and they would curve inward. I went to the drug store and bought some Skinbond and some Large Breatherite nasal strips. I put a thin layer of bond on the inside of the ear slightly larger than the nasal strip and then placed the strip in the skinbond. It worked great. I never took the strips out. They came out about 4 weeks later while giving him a bath and they stood great from then on. Good Luck and dont rush it. Its worth the extra care and time.

I am having the same problem with Sundance's ears. He is 5 1/2 months old now and just when I think his ears will stand, the right one flops. We going back to the vet and getting them retaped once a week. It just seems to take a lot of patience. I have learned to get the tape off by rubbing vegetable oil around his ears and on the tape. Sundance seems to like it and the tape will come off without pulling the hair on his ears.

Yes, the *trick* is there is no trick...it's persistance. Poochie's left ear still flops sometimes ~ I think he does it on purpose because then I'll look back and he'll give me this innocent look like:

.... My ears? My ears don't flop...Must have been the "Other" boxer puppy...the one who eats the brie you leave out to warm and steals fried chicken and ate your printer cable and went through the garbage the other night...yeah, must have been THAT boxer puppy :p ...

I found the hardest thing was that the ears grow so fast, the ears actually outgrow the tape, especially around the base of the ears, which means that re-taping for us was an almost every 3 day experience for awhile there.

Haven't needed to use (extruded foam insulation) splints for about a month and just working with sports tape. What have other people's eperience's been?

Ears and Teeth

Okay, yesterday I untaped Ginger's ears. I think they are looking pretty good so far. Yesterday I also noticed that she was missing her left upper canine tooth and her lower right one are missing.
I am wondering if the missing teeth are a clue to why her left ear is tipping a little Here is a picture:

I am wondering if I am doing an alright job with the taping or not.

Also does anyone know how long to get her teeth to grow back in? Thanks!

They are looking really good. Keep a close eye on them and as soon as they start to fall get them taped back up. If they fall two much it will add another 7-10 days to the process. As far as the teeth are concerned dont worry about it at all. I was always stepping in them sharp little things. Your puppy looks really nice.
