I re-taped them right after I took the last picture! I am using the soft foam insulation in her ears right now, it is very light and flexible so she doesn't seem to mind. I tried the molefoam, but I couldn't put it in the base of the ears and it seemed too heavy for her ears to hold up. She would shake and shake until she flicked those things right out!
I am wondering how you know when the ears are "done". People tell me "well if they flop then your not there yet", but I haven't had her ears "flop" at all (that last picture is about as floppy as I let them get) I am afraid to leave them down until they do flop because, like you said, that just adds weeks to the taping process.

Oh BTW Titus - I passed along your BreatheRight Strip idea to another Boxer owner -they sure did appreciate it!

We are NOT alone!

OH THANK HEAVEN!

I am so glad we are not alone on this subject. We (my wife and I) are new to the boards, so please feel free to let us in on any secrets you all may have on this subject (or any other!)

We have the best of both worlds in our two boys Lao (aka Lao Tzu, brother Lao or Lao Shr) and Riley (aka Brother Riley, Riles, Riley Roo, Riley Raptor and on...). Lao is an intellligent, sleak, and very peaceful brindle and Riley is a stocky, big headed, rowdy and dingy faun. Together they are quite a hand full!

They are 5 months and I am still taping. I was happy to hear about this "foam" method and "breathe right" method. I am using what the doc did-tongue depressers, gause, cotton balls and tape.

My wife wanted me to give up taping, so I joined this board hoping to find people in the same situation. {{sigh of releif!}}

If there are more details on both of the methods that I have mentioned, please educate me. I am in charge of the taping deal, so it would make things easier (hopefully) on me. (Riley is an expert-no; a MASTER at breaking the sticks within a day)

I will be sure to post pics as soon as I have a chance.

It's so great to see so many things on this site! I am looking forward to being a member of this great community!

My boxers are both natural eared, but I had a dobie with a long show crop that I thought would NEVER stand. After months of taping with the vet's method similar to the one described with tongue depressers and cotton/gauze - we found that Tampax tampons (with the cardboard applicator) were the most intelligent half-baked idea I came up with. They fit perfectly in the ear and you only have to tape enough to support and keep in place, as opposed to completely wrapping the ear from base to tip.

Keep at it - I know it's frustrating, and I wanted to throw in the towel on numerous occaisions, but after the time, enery and pain I had put the pup and myself (and hubby) thru (not to mention the cost) I couldn't bring myself to quit. Her ears finally stood beautifully at about 10 months - one ear did great after a few weeks of the tampon thing, but the other was a bit more stubborn and would stand for a couple of weeks and then need to be taped again.

We use Dr Scholl's molefoam. Cut into the shape of the ear...sorta...placed a popsicle stick down the center. We cut off the excess at the bottom so that we could over lap the edges and taped it so that it would fit nicely into the ear. Bucabu did fairly well with this process although we did have to reposition the base several times. The molefoam comes with a little sticky side which helped with holding it in place till we could tape. With this method i was able to do the posting by myself and Bucabu sat fairly still while i worked. I tried moleskin but found it was too floppy and Buc would work them off fairly quickly.
