drooling all over /eating grass

Hi all,
its been a while since I last had any questions. I was wondering if anyone out there has ever had this occur. My boxer adrian 6.5 years..female.. sometimes out of no where just starts drooling (not foam like, more like clear salivia)almost like she would before she would get her food. but it will be non stop for hours. Then it might not happen again for a long time. also since the spring has hit here she has want grass non stop when we take our walks (but the drooling and or getting sick does not occur)
So if anyone has any ideas or has heard of this before please feel free to let us know


ps One nite we got nervious and took her to the emergency vet and ofcourse by the time they saw her it had stopped! but she had no fever and was kissing the doc up and down. So I dunno how major it is, everytime it happens i worry about cancer for some reason there is a high rate of that in dogs in my state area.

sorry to bug about this again folks
I was just reading something in the first aid section
could it be bloat? i have noticed that she is passing alot of gas tonite

what is bloat exactly? and could this be it?

Bloat happens pretty quickly, my Boxer Mollie died from Bloat, well complications from the surgery anyway.

It happens VERY quickly ...her stomach distended (blewup) in minutes, I first noticed she was in trouble as she was trying to vomit but was unable too and she was in a LOT of distress, then her stomach blew up before my eyes.

If your dog was bloating, you would know about it. I hope you find your answer too the drooling problem. Drooling on its own, with out all the other bloat symptoms would hopefully not be related to Bloat.

Hmmm. Doesn't sound quite right, does it. I'd be inclined to get a second opinion from another vet. On the days she's been drooling - could she possibly have gotten at or eaten something she shouldn't??

From you post, I take it the drooling and grass eating don't happen at the same time?? Eating grass is something dogs and cats usually do when they've got an upset tummy. Another possible (but usually less common) explanation is something missing from the diet. What do you feed her?

thank you to those of you that replied to me.
I feed her the response formula from Eukabuna (sp) its fish and potato cause she had allergies from lamb and rice when she was younger. Im probably gonna take her to my regular tomorrow or thursday.
each time the drooling has happend we tried to rule things out. nothing new in her food wise ever her treats what lil threats she gets shes been getting since she was a baby. each time she hadnt eaten any raw hides or anything. at one point in the winter we thought it could be from lickign her paws from the salt outside since we had a snow winter. but...... now its nice out so i dunno. shes perfectly fine today. her bowl movments have been fine never a change in those. but she soaked the heck out of my quilt on my bed last nite.. it was almost like she had a stomach acke or something from gas or something cause i could hear her tummy or what i think is her tummy area all this loud noise coming from it.and her farts almost had me passing out haha... SO I dunno. but if i dont hear from you folks I will post what the doctor says about her

Certainly sounds like the cause is an upset tummy. What's causing that is another question altogether. Sounds like you've ruled out her getting into anything - maybe a change in diet would help. Keep us updated though, I'd be interested in what a second vet has to say.

drooling/ eating grass

hey folks heres an update on adrian
went to the vet today (our normal vet)
she has/ gets a case of gastritous(sp)

she at some point had an upset stomach and eating grass even though it feels rite to eat grass to the dog is actually bad for them it makes them just as sick and continues the cycle of the upset stomach, which is causing the drooling. SO NO GRASS for adrian and he gave us some meds for her tummy if and when she either eats grass he said to give her the meds rite away OR if she starts her drooling/upset stomach. I think she takes them 3x a day a half pill i think. Also gave her some meds to deworm her (just incase it was brought on by a worm) So... atleast now I have some piece of mind. my vet was kinda shocked that when i took her to the pet ER up the street that they didnt really pick up on this the first time. Also some other good news is that her heart murmur he had heard before is barely audiable so thats good too he said its not even a concern

Drooling

Thank You so much for posting this. My Sabastian is going through the same thing! I thought it was just normal for a boxer. We started calling him "cow" as much grass and hay he gets into eating!
His Drooling is outragious. Especially when he is in the house and desides to shake! "yuk" . Any suggestions from anyone to help him without medications?
