I just rescued Kayla and her nose is very dry and almost shredded at the top. She was a stray so I am not sure of her prior situation but I didn't know if there was anything I could do to help it. I was told that is doesn't hurt her. Any suggestions?

My last dog Brittany started getting a very rough, dry nose in her later years. I cannot remember what the condition is but is it a nuisance more than anything. We had to watch it for infection but it never bothered her. At one point the vet did remove the excess skin (it was dry and flaky) and we applied vitamin E oil to it to keep it moist and exfoliated.

Funny that you mention it. I noticed Luke's nose is dry at the top lately too. The bottom is always wet tho. Im gonna try the Vitamin E thing or the vaseline.

We used vitamin E per our vet because it would not cause our dog problems if she licked it off. I don't think vaseline would be a good thing to be ingesting. Just my 2 cents. :)

I like the sound of vitamin E!! We used the vaseline as it was here and yes, Dakota licked (tried anyway :)) it off. She was never any worse for wear. In fact our Minpin always tried to help her lick it off.

When I had my horse, we used this stuff called "Corona" ointment all the time on sores and owies. It's really creamy and soothing.
